Here's an interesting one

Watford had been interested in Markovic, but it was decided to send him abroad rather than play him in the Premier League. #LFC (Paul Joyce)

Not sure what the logic behind that is!!!!
Europa League experience?

If he is a hit abroad it won't be noticed as much, if he tore up the PL with Watford BR would look a tad silly?

"Sky Sources" are reporting deal done for Borini to Sunderland for a fee totalling £10 million.

With all due respect, that is mad money for someone who has hardly played recently. For another £5 million, the Black Cats could get Charlie Austin who has scored goals everywhere and would score them enough goals to stay up.

Fair play to whoever at Anfield negotiated this deal... clap
If that's true, whoever is responsible for extracting that much for him should get a medal! smile

@D In last 11 matches, LFC have scored more than one goal in just one game, 2-1 win at home against QPR in May

Just have to hope it's not the same person who did the Balotelli deal... getting fired and a medal at the same time would be a bit strange, biggrin

I also believe that there are less 'easy to beat' teams in the prem than ever before.. Ask Man U re Newcastle / Swansea, ask Arsenal re West ham and don't even go there with Chelsea.. The days of a 'nice easy 3 points' sadly are over, I can see a lot of so called 'smaller teams' giving the big boys a few bloody noses this season for sure.. I honestly believe our 'lazy shower of overpaid underachievers' thought that all they had to do yesterday was show up and the 3 points would be handed to them on a plate.. They need to wake up and smell the roses.. After last seasons atrocity, they should be playing every single game as as though their lives depend on it, Hopefully yesterdays result sent a very cold chill right through Anfield from the bottom right up to the top, Its not about panicking or over-reacting but more a case of making every single player and of course the manager aware that yesterday had better be a one off.. And boy they had better turn up and hit the ground sprinting in the Man U game or face the Wrath.
Yeah! I would go with this.
A fking st load of money is pumped into this league nowadays and every team is building on it and some of the so called bigger teams (us) are just resting on their laurels while the "lesser" teams bring it to us properly and fk us in the ass while our highly paid tt players think they hardly have to do fk all to win. Cocky fks.
Thing is when you compare how English clubs are doing in Europe now compared to what they used to do you have to wonder how much is the "smaller" teams getting much better and how much is the top teams getting worse (for whatever reason)?

Well they can't take the pee about our Andy Carroll deal anymore. 36mill for an uncapped 19 year old. That'll work...

Nor City for paying £49m for Sterling! Martial is also now, apparently, one of the best under 20 year-olds in the World.

Never heard of him personally.

You can take the pee but the player we've bought in are 10 times better than the ones you've bought in.

What do you think might fix these endemic defensive frailties then?

As for the sexy football, all I'm suggesting is that Sturridge/Ings is better suited to playing the lone man up front with 2 attacking midfielders either side of him. When Sturridge comes back, do you think we'll continue with Benteke on his own up front? Maybe one of the wider front 3 needs to be more direct and be able to run at people. We're all seeing what Sterling is doing for Silva.

Whatever the answers are, it involves changing what we're doing now, we all know we're fortunate to be on 7 points. Bournemouth were very unlucky not to leave with 3 points and Arsenal had a legitimate goal disallowed. This luck won't continue.

I'd imagine that what we're seeing now is the strategy we honed over pre season and perhaps even bought over the summer for. I'm sure the attack will get better with the return of Sturridge with Benteke and Firmino settling in. But the defence, there's no one really missing from our back line. I'd love to hear our manager's thoughts on what he thinks is going wrong and what might be done about it.

Why do you think the top teams in the Prem now only play with one striker?

In fact, thinking back to Chelsea last season, we seem to have, pretty much, the same sort of line up and formation:

So, if that formation and line up is good enough to win the league, and relatively comfortably in the end, then I still think our problems lie else where. Either the players aren't being told the right things to do, they're not understanding their roles, or they're simply not playing well enough.
We don't have a defensive anchor like they do, not one that will play every game anyway. And of their front 3,when you look at Hazzard, you see a player that can run at and beat defenders. The closest we had was Sterling who we sold.

As for 2 of their central midfield 3, we'd have to play Coutinho/Lallana in the Oscars role.

In fact I don't think we set up anything like that, it's not just about players standing in a position, it's also what skills and attributes they bring.

nono

If he is loaned out to a fellow perm club you cannot recall him back for the whole season, Loaning him out to Foreign side probably means you can get him back, plus footballers only pay 15% tax in Turkey & that's got to be appealing too

How was you're trip with HR in France at the weekend ?

Nice to see you back old boy.

Could BR realistically look any sillier than he already does?

I genuinely have no confidence in the man, we look like a bunch of strangers every time we hit the pitch, it just never ever seems to get any better, I know it is only 4 games in but we look no different.
Still a top 7 team (hopefully!) and we spend a lot of money and time just to sit where we are and do no better. It is all a little strange really.

It's really not that different. The main difference is the choice of two slightly more attacking options in the middle three than we have. Though, Ramires and Mikel played as much as Oscar last season - so similar to Henders or Milner.

So actually, the fact that Chelsea play with one up front, more attacking minded options in midfield yet STILL don't concede as much and score more than us should prove that our problem is not our choice of one up front, nor our formation.

I believe we could keep our formation, but tweak certain players roles and instructions and we'd perform much better than we are.

About bloody time too. £10m is a great return IMO. Especially given that we have given Mario away for free.
