We're Man U charming when they lost 2-1 at Swansea?

I don't think anyone needs brownie points for going on other teams' threads to say well done when you lose to them, do they? Or are we playing "who can make the silliest suggestion to have a go at LFC fans this week"?

This amazes me: Forbes football rich list. Not only for our position now, just £70m behind Arsenal and ~£110m behind Chelsea, but also our rise up the table since 2011/2012. In fact our position changes since the earliest table on that page are quite interesting! In fact, if you go back just 7 years, no one had higher revenues than we do today and the highest revenue (Utd - £394m) was just 52% of the highest today (RM - £796m).

Were you too busy being charming to West Ham fans to notice?

Not a massive investment again by the American lot, as much as we have spent again this year we have recouped a load with a net spend of only 10m - I think last year was about 20m - Dont get me wrong they have stabalised our club, moved us forward a lot commercially but I am not sure until we start seeing a net spend of 40m+ we will only yo yo in and out of the top 4... with all the extra money now coming into the club I really dont feel a net spend of 10m is enough investment into the 1st team.

Am I being a pessimist or a realist? Now we have a good squad any future investments really need to come in from tier 2 level players (tie 1 being unobtainable) who will walk straight into our first team and improve it instantly.

I was on the Swansea forum waiting for you to come on and congratulate them.

Net send is a bit misleading though isn't it when comparing clubs.

Ours the last two years includes two players bought for 25m and 8m (roughly) and sold for 80m and 50m. Difficult to get net spend up to 40m when you've got to spend all that first. We've definiteley been buying too many players the last few years as it is.

You could argue those type of sales are good business and if the Club is deliberately buying young talent that either ends up at the right level or is sold for a profit then that's a good way to increase revenue, but it also drives down net spend.

You need to consider wages in conjunction I think as well to really compare the clubs, if the net spend rose to 40m, but the wages fell to compensate then there's no investment in the squad and wages are far closer linked to quality that transfer fees are.

If anyone is struggling for tickets anytime let me know. I'm in a small Liverpool group on facebook and one of the lads has had spares for the past few games.
Actually a friend on mine was looking for 2 away tickets at Tottenham, for her boyfriend's 30th. If you or anyone else knows of some going I'd be very appreciative!

I always congratulate the oppo when we get beat , isn't that the decent thing to do ?

I guess some are gracious & polite in defeat & others are not.

The decent thing to do? gracious and polite? It's like you've made up some standard of behaviour in your own mind and now you're going to cast judgement on those who don't follow this.

I've never left a ground and seen opposition fans shaking hands congratulating the other for winning.

Get over yourself.

Indeed not massive investment, although i wonder how much the new stand is impacting the books.

It maybe they can point to £80m being spent, showing they are giving BR the backing, however they are keeping their warchest dry should a new manager comes in.

I am not sure it will cost them that much, they have sold all their corporate already and the stand is going to get named - I imagine that will be a decent amount of money

I am not knocking them as they really have stablised us etc but my question will always be does the net spend show they as soon as stand etc is done they will look to sell? I think they would easily treble their investment not bad on a 300m investment

Treble their investment based on what? No-one in their right mind would spend over £1bn on us. I'd be shocked if we were sold for over £600m to be honest. Even that asking price would be a push, especially given the fact we can't maintain a champions league spot. Given the re-dev. of the stand & the refinancing that i'm sure happened, that would put FSG's total investment closer to the £500m mark, rather than the £300m or so that they paid for the club in the first place.

Based on the fact that FSG bought us for less than £300m and Forbes now value us at over £900m. That's without the stadium expansion yet complete or the full flow of the bumper TV rights money.

But I don't think they will sell, why would they? We're not costing FSG a penny, we're growing in value and as Tomkins pointed out, we're the only truly global brand that they have in their portfolio, so they're able to leverage that with their other companies.
