Recall Aspas and stick him up front with Origi. Sorted.
There is still lots of good players out there - my issue is we spend time going after the ones the big boys are after - then end up on the last day of the window with a choice of Eto or Mario - Recall Aspas and stick him up front with Origi. Sorted.
Need to get realistic, thats my issue.

Completely agree. But fans can't have it both ways. Moaning that Markovic hasn't set the world alight, that we should have bought Costa or Martinez...Need to get realistic, thats my issue.
Well, we either can either be successfully sign players like Markovic, but know that there is a risk it won't work out. Or we can try to go for more "proven" signings but realise that 9 times out of 10 we won't get their signature, and if we do there is still a chance they won't come good.
I think Depay was always going to go to Utd if they wanted him, the only thing we could have possibly have offered him over Utd is a guaranteed starting place every week.
Looking at the players we have missed out on, half of them have been crap for whoever they have gone to, the other half have been brilliant.

Or with our current revenues.
We could spend more than we do if the owners chose to do so.So I say "fk them" and let's try and win the league. Not aim to finish "top 4".
But that won't happen.
Sounds like a completely reckless plan to me.
So we spend X tens of millions extra trying to sign players, plus X extra millions per year in wages. It is blatantly obvious that we're ignoring FFP rules, chances are we get banned from European competition for more than a year or two, plus quite possibly have a transfer ban imposed on us (in the same way that Barca did/have).
And that's only to compete for the league (IF we actually get to sign those players) - no guarantee we'll actually win it.
And even if we do win it, we then won't be able to play in Europe, which could then impede us signing players anyway!

Will just try to be happy with coming 5th and 6th with the occasional excursion higher up the league.
I really don't think there is a magic formula to consistently outperform salary spend.

"Yes, Depay’s rapport with Van Gaal was crucial but...". No buts really - that rapport is the crucial point. Nothing else. Once Van Gaal wanted him, we could have been the Real Madrid of the Prem, it would have made no difference.

Brendan Rodgers on missing out on Depay, "We showed great character in trying to sign him but sometimes you can want to sign a player too much."
he really does talk complete bks sometimes- he must have a special app to produce the crap he spouts in the way he says it..desolate said:

Indeed. The only glimmer of hope is that Chelsea haven't really got much in terms of commercial support and that maybe, just maybe, we'll be able to compete more with Arsenal after a few years of having our stadium expansion complete. Will just try to be happy with coming 5th and 6th with the occasional excursion higher up the league.

Until then it would just be nice if we could get a team together that had half the attacking flair that we had with Suarez and actually showed a bit of fight every now and then.

I don't know the player but i can imagine he signed for UTD for LESS than he was being offered elsewhere - can you?Van Gaal is great and all that but they have got out the howitzer in the transfer market. Big fees AND big salaries.

So could we have signed Depay? I would bet you £20k a week extra on whatever United are paying him, he would have signed.
I simply do not get the wage salary cap. If Liverpool are happy to flush £120m down the pisser purely on transfer, surely they could save with a more prudent transfer spend policy and afford to pay £20k+ on top of whatever the top clubs are paying to land the TOP player(s) we need!
