OK London424 - I agree if Liverpool paid £300-400k a week we could attract the very top talent despite the city location.
Then be bankrupt the year we don't make top 4 - Sounds great Edited by Adam B on Monday 5th October 16:51

Reading between the lines from press this seems pretty much bang on.Klopp seems number 1 target but they have spoken to Carlo. He doesn't know who yet though, we met Carlo in New York a week last monday, Klopp was going the tues - I have been told they are meeting Klopp again tmrw - there is an offer on the table but they are worried about Chelsea too.... see if tmrw brings anything

They have moved to cover off Chelsea incase Jose meltdown carries on.
Brendan Rodgers statement:
"I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club. It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years."
“I have worked every day to represent the club to the best of my ability, to develop both individual players and a team that the club’s magnificent fans can be proud of."
"There have been some very memorable moments during my time at Liverpool and I would like to thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment."
"The current squad is one in transition, but they have some real talent and are showing a strong sense of togetherness. I expect to see them continue to grow and develop over the coming weeks and I wish them and my successor well for the rest of the season."
“Liverpool has a magnificent football heritage and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the history, tradition and values that make the city and the club so exceptional."
"As well as my players, I would like to thank everyone connected with the club; Fenway Sports Group, the Liverpool Directors, in particular Ian Ayre, my coaching staff, the staff throughout the club, the volunteers, the Academy staff and its young players and of course the amazing Liverpool fans for their unwavering support, passion and dedication which has made my time at the club so special."
“Finally, I would like to give a special mention to John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon. They gave me this great opportunity and even though we will no longer be working together I am sure our relationship and friendship will continue into the future.”

Which is actually a pretty smart thing to do under the circumstances. If, like Herr Klopp you were to declare yourself up for a challenge (read: elevate under performing basket case situation to a level more in line with that club's aspirations) you'd have to accept that that statement could bizarrely now include Chelski. So would you prefer to accept said challenge armed with a few million quid or many, many million quid??They have moved to cover off Chelsea incase Jose meltdown carries on.

So which players won't you reserve your judgement on?
Seeing as you asked - Balotelli and Allen, at the very least. I think Lucas is better than Allen and I'm sure there are better players out there for that job than either. I've already said all I can about Balotelli. I'd wave them both off.Lovren under a different manager might be a different player; he certainly was at Southampton. I take the point about Lallana, Coutinho and Firminho. God knows but at least we have a choice. But again I think Lallana is better than he's showed so far.
It would appear from a report I read on 1 of the websites that FSG were preparing to swallow all their misgivings about Klopp (ie that he would want control over transfers etc and go for him. While Klopp's usual assistant (a Bosnian) has already given an interview in Bosnia announcing that Klopp to LFC is as good as signed. The same report said that while Ancelotti had also met with FSG its thought he's unlikely to want to take on a rebuilding job.
Add Sye's mate to all that and I guess its a done deal.
Top 5, signs of real progress, latter stages of a couple of cup competitions. And a team that looks like it knows how to play football with some passion. That would do me this season.

Agree with most of this. I also think Lovren could be a different player under another manager and Klopp is supposed to be good at sorting out a defence. In the two seasons he won the league, his teams conceded 25 goals or fewer. Same with Lallana, definitely a confidence player, must be hard for such a player to come into an under-performing team.Lovren under a different manager might be a different player; he certainly was at Southampton. Not sure about Lucas and Allen. Lucas has been good this season, but not consistently so. He's also in his final years and becoming quite injury prone. Depending on how Klopp sets up, we'll either make do with both covering each other's injuries, or neither will be an enforcer enough, so both will have to go.

Yep - sorry Adam
no problemGood statement from Brendan, bear him no malice but glad he is out
This season? I would settle for a manager with a clear strategy, clear selection of 2/3 formations depending on game, players playing in their best positions and with some confidence. The results and league position would then come naturally. I would be happier with 7th and all the other things firing in the last 2 months, than 5th with a manager who is still trying to work out what to do/who plays where/who he likes at the end of the season.

Brendan Rodgers statement: Class
Like him or not, very classy.I wish him well for the future.
I don't wish him ill, I just don't think he ultimately did a good job. And he talked too much nonsense and couldn't back it up with actions and results overall.

I'm 33 - just about remember the last time we won the title. In my teenage/adult life the 2013/14 season is the only time I have truly believed we would win the title. I'll always be grateful to BR for that.
You know what? I'm 51 and remember almost taking titles for granted. That excitement you regularly felt, knowing how good your players were, having faith in your strikers being able to take their chances - that 13/14 season brought it all back. It was brilliant. I hope we get that again before long. Our match day group is split, us in our 50's and our kids all in their 20's. As the 2013-14 season reached its climax we kept saying to the kids you will never win the league conceding goals like we do as at some point you will stop scoring yourself. Why Rogers ignored the obvious I will never know. It proved to a problem he could never get to grips with.
As Ian Wright said the other night the attack that season looked after itself, all he had to do was fix the defence.
