Oh, what a charming pair.

Why were LFC so desperate to hold on to this greedy little toad? Does he st goals and sell shirts by the container?

£5.2m a year, I honestly would be overcome with emotion to be offered that. It does make you wonder what would be 'enough', especially in light of Hamilton's new contract of £33m basic. There must be a point where you can still live like a Sheik and still do a job you thoroughly enjoy. Maybe it isn't the money Sterling is interested in and genuinely would enjoy Chelsea more at half the wages and I'm doing him a disservice.
If it really wasn't about the money, then why the protracted contract talks. If Sterling has made up his mind then it's simply a case of his agent telling LFC that he wishes to move in the summer - no need for all of this media crap.

Of course if Sterling really wanted to move he's missed his chance already. We played Chelsea two weeks ago during which he had ample time to take a bite out of Ivanovic.

I wonder if there's ever been a case where a player's agent has come out and insulted someone associated with the club quite like he has today. If Sterling had any sense he'd be sacking him by this evening (although I dare say, a shark like this has got him under a water tight contract). Oh to be a fly on the wall at the club today.
It's very difficult for an agent in England to have a player under a "water tight contract" for an extended period of time.

There are loads of ways a player can change agents. Sterling has only recently moved to this guy and he could move again and if the new agent does the deal he gets the money. There has been some big efforts to clean up this area of the game.

Not all of them successful. But the players have a surprising amount of freedom.

Ah fair enough - must admit I've never paid much attention to agents. Ta.

Well it's a great way to force the clubs hand, Sterling leaves for a big pay day and the agent makes a fortune.
Dont agree - its a way to get the clubs back up and say fk YOU- see those kids over there same age as you on £500 per week - go play with them for 2 years
Exactly, he is contracted until 2017 on a reported £35k per week.
That is less than £2m per year. Given some of the money we've wasted recently not such a big amount.

I'd love for us to make him sit on a bench - in 12 months time with no first team match time, who will want him ?
I realise we'd lose out on some transfer fee but it's not as if he's done much to enhance it, even before these comments today.

His agent is a naive idiot.

if he went in 2 years after his contract was gone we would also be due compensation for him for 4-7m? if ings is 3-5m? not sure how that is worked out...

Just depends on how much FSG want to play hardball here ....

Unless we get offered 50M+ for him, that's the route I would be taking! He's under contract at 35k a week, pretty cheap in footballer terms! What we lose on transfer fees we save on wages.

Time to play hardball & show that Liverpool WILL NOT be bullied by a little of a footballer & a huge of an agent! It also needs to send the message that Liverpool won't just roll over & sell players, our transfer & contract dealings have been an embarrassment the last 5 or so years. Player power my ass, stick the little prickface in the reserves & let him rot.... He will break before LFC & want to play again!

No one is going to pay more than £25m for him - above that there is a pick of more proven talent.
Suarez's efforts made Sterling look much better than he is last season. This season he's not been that great.

If Carroll was "worth" £35m after 1 decent season in a Newcastle shirt, then Raheem at a younger age than Carroll and has both CL and World Cup "experience", then Liverpool should look to recoup at least that, even with just 2 years remaining on his contract. No way will they ever get near £50m. It will be interesting to see if anyone comes in for him over the Summer - I expect a few low ball offers in the £20m region just to shake the hornets nest. If he is not sold, will Raheem maintain a professional attitude next season, will he actually sign the new contract or will Liverpool rescind the contract offer completely (that would be fun!).

Not quite correct.

Say we sold him now, we'd get £30m.

Over two years, if he'd signed the £100k a week contract, he'd cost us an extra (£65k * 104) £6.76m.

So having him rot in the reserves will cost us at least £20-25m. Though I do think we should still play hardball with him.

James Pearce: Sterling can put in a transfer request, but he won't leave unless there's a bid the club believe reflects his value.

The yanks will not let this lad go cheap im telling you - I get the impression they would rather sit him in the ressies than sell for 30m -
As has been said already (by you, me and others); FSG aren't mugs and are shrewd operators. They showed it in dealing with Suarez - Sterling is far below Suarez in a pecking order. Where they've made mistakes (transfer committee, keeping Dalglish longer than they should, really) they at least looking to change things.

Sterling may think he has a lot of benefits, but the way he and his agent have dealt with this have got a lot of the fans against him. And as mentioned on 35k a week then it's not too much of a problem to keep him on it until it runs out. That places him at 22 having not played a match in 2 years, with this season him having a poor finishing record, not what you want in an attacking midfielder. Someone else talented and young will have come along then. He really doesn't want to mess the owners about too much as if they decide they don't get a big enough offer/ "teach him a lesson" then he's screwing himself big time.

I can see us selling for either silly money (40-50M) to an English club, or perhaps nearer £25-30M to someone in Europe who isn't direct opposition. If that isn't an option then they'll just stick him in the reserves or play him (depending on his attitude after all this).

We would also get a compensation fee at the end of his contract they are saying 5/6m for ings so say 8m for him ?

If it was me id be going to Dynamo now and getting kono for free - that would really put the stters up the dhead

Nice to see IBE has just signed 5 year deal (and flanners 12month)

Get rid of the manager and I'm sure he'd stay. He wants to win things, he's got no chance playing under Mr Rodgers any time soon if at all.

I can see him going to Manchester City easily for 35 million. He'll walk in the side and replace Milner and Navas who has under performed.

The lad is an exceptional talent. He's had a very poor season and still been one of our 2 go to players. Mr Rodgers has played him as a lone centre forward and a wing back. He's best position is wide in a front 3 or behind the striker. He seems to have had enough. Wages, opportunity to compete at the top level and opportunity to develop by playing in his natural position and alongside world class players. All of these things we come up short on.

FSG will protect their investment. Anything over 30 million and they'll sell. They won't make an emotional decision of having him in the reserves.

So if FSG sacked BR, You think He would suddenly accept £100k a week, and start playing well again.

And his agent will apologise for what he said.

We will suddenly be a massive attraction for world class players.

We will Compete at the top level.

We weill suddenly find the Millions we need to try and compete with Chelsea/City /Man U.

Or is this just everything being blamed on the manager. (Not blindly following BR Just being realistic)
