One thing for sure who ever his next contract is with it will be a earn as you play
agree- wonder when his contract is up for renegotiation - he is not going to be in a very good position to argue with any contract offered.

Ah- so not a lot they can do in the foreseeable future
He is such cracking player who must have such a good goals per game record, but is the most injury-prone player I have ever known

edit - 37 goals in 58 appearances

...get shut of him I say.
I'd imagine that thought has crossed a few minds at LFC

Probably the same as when Chelsea agreed to off load him. The trouble is I can't see anybody wanting him, he's clearly (now and perhaps before we signed him) a liability
Yes I agree and it seems we will be stuck with him for the reasons you mention. frown
But why?

He's obviously quality when he works.

You and I don't pay his wage so ultimately he's no affect to us.

The argument might be we can get something in replacement/he's taking up a new players space but there's plenty of crap in our team doing just that, at least Sturridge is quality.

We can't sell him injured and if we could only sell him when he works, well we'd want to keep him.

He's done enough at this club to warrant our
support.
Yes I agree it doesn't matter to us but I just see it as a complete waste of money and get how much frustration he must cause with the players and manager and the fact that he is quality only makes this more heightened.

Don't get me wrong I think he is a great player but I would rather have someone in my team that can be relied on and not someone that is a constant sick note.
Well at the moment it's like he's not even a player at the club so I figure that he's already not part of the plans.

I reckon he could come back end of jan and still knock in at least 10 goals before season end laugh

Think so, the thing is if you listen to a lot of sportsmen they say they always played with some pain/injuries, just battled through it otherwise you could miss half your carrer

Sturridge doesnt appear to have that ability, I dont know if its laziness or just a mind thing and he is scared of getting hurt again

If he was your employee... and he was known for having a pile of sick notes stamped by the doc... would you give him a gold plated 5 year contract...?

He's always been prone to injury.

Out of interest.... there are always some 'great' players that have been prone to injury over the years, is there any correlation in the clubs these 'professional sickies' have played for?

Thinking:
Sturridge,
McManaman
Owen

Any others spring to mind?

I think Anelka was like that for a long time...wouldn't play unless 100%.

Just Googled Owen, Newcastle & injured to re-acquaint myself with the figures. Truly shocking stats over 4 years.

Hope DS manages not to sink to those depths.

How about Darren Anderton, Ryan Giggs and even Steven Gerrard.

All have had lots of injuries and many of them recurring injuries to the same muscle group.

Honestly, looking at all those guys, the thing I see that they have in common is that they played a lot of football as they were growing up. Probably often being moved up and playing against older age groups and were first team regulars at an early age.

I do think kids can be exposed to too much competitive football at too young an age.
