I've mentioned this before but the failure of our season is our inability to land a top class striker. When this end of season review takes place, whomever is responsible for this should be under scrutiny.

This more than anything caused us problems. Borini is not good enough, neither is Ballotelli - it's clear BR did not want either of them. Lambert was always signed as a plan B, but was always going to be difficult considering plan A never got going. The DS injuries were unfortunate but not unexpected, so once again, the lack of striking alternatives is what has cost us this season. BR played Sterling up front as a striker, which is clearly not his best position but he played there because none of the others were deemed good enough.

Somebody mentioned Djeko above - at least he knows where the net is and would certainly be an improvement on the current crop (bar a fit Sturridge).
Agreed. The failure of our season was primarily down to this. I said it before a bl was even kicked; that this season would be a failure especially after not landing Suarez-esqe replacement in Sanchez. This is single failure probably will set us back for a few years yet. Not sure Dzeko is the answer; we need a workhorse - Dzeko can be lazy and petulant at times. Tevez has been mentioned but he is probably too old now and a long shot. Another long shot but could can be Suarez-esqe on his day in Chicharito. As I said, unlikely but if you are looking for a similiar player, there aren't many available. The club should do all it can to land that type of player. No more bets on potential. 3 Solid proven players at the very least supplemented with a couple of free transfers where players are out of contract, plus a mass clear out of the deadwood.

The biggest problem is that you simply can't buy replacements for players like Suarez unless you are Barca or Real, and maybe one or two other clubs.... People were gnashing their teeth saying last season was all down to Suarez & not Rogers tactics etc, but he used the assets at his disposal very well & we were there bar a few daft results.

You simply can't expect to be at the same level after losing probably the best forward in the world at the time, look at Spurs/Bale & the situation was almost a carbon copy! A very good team being dragged to higher levels by a world class player.

Odds slashed on Jurgen Klopp taking over as Liverpool manager

08:03, 24 MAY 2015
BY ED MALYON

The German coach is expected to be in demand this summer and the Reds are now bookies favourites

Odds were last night slashed on Jurgen Klopp becoming the new Liverpool manager.

The popular German coach left Dortmund on Saturday having guided them to the Europa League - a remarkable feat considering they were bottom of the Bundesliga in January. 'Kloppo' had refused to talk to other teams until he was out of the door at the Westfalenstadion but on the same night he left, speculation heightened about Liverpool contacting the eccentric coach.

His departure was the subject of an incredible tifo tribute from The Yellow Wall, but just as Klopp exited Dortmund his odds began to tumble on a Premier League switch.

Having previously been 5/1, Klopp's price ditched sharply to 2/1 with SkyBet late on Saturday night.

And with an implied chance of 66%, those odds make Anfield his most likely destination, placing question marks over Brendan Rodgers' future.

The Northern Irishman has endured a tough season on Merseyside but this week declared he was "150 per cent" sure he would be in charge at Anfield next season.

Following the final game of the season at Stoke on Sunday, he will be asked to contribute to an in-depth review of the club’s performance, where some tough and searching questions will be asked about his role in the failure to deliver the stated aim of a top four finish.

Asked if he feels reassured co-owners John Henry and Tom Werner will stick by him and ask him to lead the club next season following that review, Rodgers replied: “Yeah, yeah. 150 per cent.

I think you evolve as a manager. Certainly the experiences of this year will make me better. We have been clear with the identity of how we want to play since I’ve been here and obviously it hasn’t quite worked out this season as I would have liked.

“But going forward, I repeat, I will be a better manager for the experiences and hopefully go on next year to be more consistent and we can win more games than we have.”

Rodgers will sit down with director Mike Gordon in the coming week for the first of a series of meetings that will review not only performance on and off the pitch, but the club's structures.

Meetings will continue over several days, and Rodgers will also speak with both Henry and Werner as they take a broader look at the whole structure in terms of recruitment and management.

While that suggests there will be some changes – most notably to the much maligned transfer committee – the manager insisted there is no prospect of a doom laden inquiry.

“There is probably a lot more made of that than what it actually is - there have been a number of reviews,” he said. “Throughout the season I’ve had great communication with the owners. I’ll speak with them at the end of the season - like I did last year, like I did at the end of my first year, and like I’ve done intermittently throughout the season. There is no Great Big Review.”

Just this bit - 'We have been clear with the identity of how we want to play since I’ve been here'. Just 2 points

1. What identity was that this season then?
2. I'm clear that I want to be able to be a driving god, doesn't mean I can, regardless of how long I've been at it.

Momentum building. If it happens it will happen quickly I think. When is Mr Rodgers review, anyone know? I want to have the champagne ready just in case smile

But he has not picked any of them - Brendan talks total shyte media sound bite bull, I just don't like him as a person as a manager as Raja says he is a mid table guy who got lucky.

The only positive thing that people say Rodgers has is potential to develop into a good manager and that he is young.
It's ok to have managers like that at Sunderland, West Ham or Villa but shouldn't be liek that at us if we are spunking £100m+ every summer.

I'm firmly in the Rodgers out camp at the mo. He was awful in the league for half the season. Piss poor in Europe.
Nothing has shown me that he is the manager to take us forward to win trophies for years and years.

Line up Klopp's achievements next to Mr Rodgers. Ends the argument right there I think.

I think even if FSG were going to keep Mr Rodgers, the availability of Klopp is having them at least revisit their original plans.
What are you going to whine about if we get Klopp?! You'll have to learn to cheer up and feel positive for a change laugh
I'll take that as an agreement then.

As for the lineup today, completely clueless. Yet again.

What's the worst we've lost under Mr Rodgers? I can see Stoke putting 6 past us.

The transfer committee didn't force Mr Rodgers to play without strikers when we have 3 available, or to play Can right back. Or to still have no idea how to set up a defence against a mid table team who most definitely haven't got our spending power.

And let's be honest, is anyone really surprised by what's going on?

He picks the team. I'm commenting on what I'm watching. You're clearly frustrated at Mr Rodgers, I know you'd put a lot of faith in him. Me, personally, I called him for what he is a long long time ago. What he is doing is indefensible. It wouldn't surprise me if he was trying to lose on purpose so it's even harder for his replacement.
