Greg Dyke has been making noises about supporting a European boycott of the World Cup following the re-election of Blatter (although, as yet, I don't believe there has been any mention of this from any other European nation). Personally I can't see it happening due to self-interest trumping principles but do those who know more about the game than I think that a Europe-wide boycott is likely (or even a good idea), would it make the slightest difference to Sepps length of tenure or is the game already too Blattered for a stand by one of the worlds 2 major footballing powerhouses to bring it back on course?

It would get rid of Blatter no doubt, after all what credibility is a WC without Europe. A Eiropean boycott would put Blatter in a no win situation, he would have to go. I do think as you have said it will not happen. Love it if it did

Would be amazing if so. UEFA doesn't have the balls though, I don't reckon.

I'm not a football fan but my take on it is if they don't withdraw then they support the principles of what FIFA stands for. Without Europe and south America the world cup will be a joke and the sponsors will leave.

UEFA = Platini => the French voted on Blatter.

Boycotting the WC or stepping out of the FIFA was all over the news in the Netherlands and Germany as well. But the bigs words used by a few European FA chairman prior to the FIFA elections were quickly toned down after the elections; one of which being Germany.

It's not going to happen; I suspect they will wait and see what comes out of the investigations.

Dyke was on Radio 5 this morning and made the point in that the FA is in a relatively unique position in that a) it don't need FIFA's money and b) they've already said we aren't going to bid for another World Cup whilst Blatter is in charge. He said that someone needs to take charge and determine a course of action/see what the appetite is amongst other countries to force FIFA's hand....he laid that very much at Platini's door. Seems like that will not be that easy though given among others Spain and France voted for Blatter which was staggering.

Who would suspect the French would be unreliable! I hope the FA don't bid for the World Cup as it has been a waste of money the last few times and the system is so obviously corrupt that it is embarrassing.

We should certainly pull out of the 2022 WC now, on humanitarian grounds. 1200 dead so far in the construction. It's a complete outrage.

Yep. This is what is pissing me off. I know this sort of st goes on throughout the middle east (extorting cheap workers) but FIFA should be above that. Just a fraction of the amount they spend could provide half decent living standards for the workers, some good training and a bit of health and safety.

I'd happily support a boycott of Russia and especially Qatar.

It would be good if it happened, but I can't see it.

Qatar is far enough away that it can and should be moved elsewhere. That was a joke of a decision that just can't be justified in any sense.

Why would Platini vote for Blatter after having already asked Blatter to stand down ?

Just send the under 21 squad.

A)We're not going to win anyway
B)They'll gain experience for a future full squad
C)If we do not go, we'll be forgotten. By turning up we get to make a point.

It's not going to happen.

If he has presided over a corrupt establishment then he will go but at the moment nothing is proven. Wait until after the trials.

But on the other hand based on England's last performance they have nothing to lose, as
they got no where the last time.

Platini doesn't vote himself as UEFA president, the French FA chairman does....

Spain by the way, also a top 6 country, voted on Blatter as well.

I think there's no way on earth either England, or even less likely UEFA will boycott the tournament. Regardless of what Greg Dyke has said, the FA needs the revenue from qualifiers at Wembley to pay off the bill for the stadium, it simply won't happen.

The fact is the vast majority of the footballing world are entirely happy for the game to be organised in a corrupt manner because it suits them to operate that way. I suspect short of Blatter being locked up he is going to serve out his next term. A few sponsors will have a whine but ultimately will stick with it, and if they don't they will be swiftly replaced by someone else desperate for the exposure.

Fifa has been corrupt for the past 40 odd years, I don't think anything will change going forwards.

I would think the intention would be to carry on and qualify for the finals and then not turn up.

However, the FA (and every other country) simply hasn't got the balls to boycott the WC.

There will be lots of hot air and bluster for a while, and then everything will carry on as normal, and Blatter knows that, that's why he thinks he's untouchable (probably even from the FBI)

Blatter didn't want the World Cup to go to Qatar but Platini did!
