England were awful (so inkeeping with the men's game). Spain looked really good in their game.

Currently Germany vs Norway.. the Germans look unstoppable.

Why are they playing on plastic?

And also, what comparable level do you think this is at compared to the mens game. I'm trying to watch it and whilst technically ok, I reckon a conference team would beat either of these teams.

I don't know. It's a different type of game to be honest. It should be judged on its own merits, not compared to the men's game.

For example, anyone who watched say England vs Algeria back in 2010 would have though England were not even in the conference.

^^^THIS. So long as both teams are equally matched, you can get a cracking game of football, like that 3-3 draw the other day.

The best team in Womens football would lose by double digits to an U18 boys team (Premier league club level). And that would be them taking it easy.

You just can't compare the two.

Thailand vs ivory coast was an enjoyable watch last night.
Some of the defending was a but comedy but in context this is the first WC for both of them and you could really see what the win meant to them.

I don't understand this obsession with comparing it to the men's game.
Give them both equal funding and equal wages / training facilities, along with equal opportunities to participate (don't forget this enlightened country only permitted it from the 70's!) then make the comparison.

I've tried watching it several times. Don't get the hype, I don't care that women are playing, I just think the standard is pretty rubbish. I'm sure (just like the old WWF Wrestlemania events smile ) it will get better over time.

Of course I do! I pretty much watch anything that's on terrestrial as well as listen to 5live etc - big fan of football (regardless of who is playing), which is why I am quite enjoying this.

I'll be watching England be dire this weekend as well - and as a bonus it will be in the men's and women's game.

Fair play, I should probably give it more of a chance smile

It's only the group stages at the mo so the standrad should imporve.

I watched the Thailand vs Ivory Coast game, and when the Thais won (in their first ever world cup) it meant so much to them it was quite refreshing to see.

Apparently they are using 3g pitches as that is what is used at most outdoor Canadian venues, due to their climate making it hard to keep grass surfaces.

Switzerland vs Ecuador was interesting last night, only 2:0 at half time then they just went to pieces completely.
I actually thought the first half was pretty even.

Get in. 1-0, Kirby. Well deserved, been by far the better side.

That's a good goal from Carney. Fractionally offside but who cares.
