They really aren't. They are between 5'4 and 5'7.
It's just schoolboy stuff...and the less said about the GK's the better.
Hope Solo is 5' 9.It's just schoolboy stuff...and the less said about the GK's the better.
Abby Wambach is 5' 11
Lauren Holiday is 5' 8
Shannon Boxx is 5' 8
Etc.
And regard the schoolboy stuff, I assume you were saying the same when Brazil were stuffed, or England, or whoever.
Japan were very poor to start with and the US made the most of it. Catching the keeper off her line was a rather audacious bit of skill.
Edit: the tallest Japanese player I could find was 5' 6. The US has a massive average height advantage, and with it probably size and power. Incidentally, the England team was almost physically much bigger than the Japanese - they are relying on ball retention, passing and skill to score. A bit like Spain used to.

Of course when Brazil got thumped it was schoolboy stuff. Luiz was an embarrassment.
The attempt from the halfway line was great skill, but the keeper was woeful. All credit for taking the opportunity and having the technique to carry it out.

Edit #2:
Spain's world cup winning squad of 2010 contained such giants as Iniesta (5' 7), Xavi (5' 7), Mata (5' 7), Silva (5' 7), Navas (5' 7).. just as well they didn't meet some non-league opposition eh.

I can only assume you're being deliberately thick now.
What because as I said earlier size is not the be all and end all? Sergio Aguero is only 5'8. Doesn't seem to have done him any harm. And, of course, Messi is only 5'7.
The thread about youth football is relevant here: the obsession with power and big lads.
Anyway, it's a pity Japan shipped those early goals, they have been coping much better, especially the second half.

Japan only coped because America sat back for the second half. This world cup was a victory for physicality over technical skill. That's why the Americans warm up with athletic training and don't even bother kicking a ball before kick off.

Anyway I've got an early start, I'll probably pop back in in the morning.
Just watched the highlights.
It seems like the female commentator has changed her tune a bit. She's been bigging things up in every game I've watched so far.
This time nearly every goal is followed by the words "another mistake".
It did look quite an entertaining game, but again the frustration with the basic errors, goalkeeping and inability to read the game stands out a mile.
