Good game and good result!

Carney should have come on earlier or started, she provided quality.

It's only the group stages at the mo so the standrad should imporve.

I watched the Thailand vs Ivory Coast game, and when the Thais won (in their first ever world cup) it meant so much to them it was quite refreshing to see.
I'm not saying a word!! hehe

The England performances haven't been great so far but you do get the impression that they really care and are trying their best. Compare that to the men's disgraceful showing in South Africa in 2010.

Sweden vs Australia was good last night.
I am baffled at the decision to play every game on artificial turf though, very strange. Wonder who got a back hander for that.

Tonight it's England vs Colombia, should be good.

And what do you think? England's pen was lucky and frankly I thought Colombia should have had a pen when England's goalie cleared their striker out at the end of the first half.

It's a decent standard but both times I've watched it, the game has been spoiled by the inane commentary of Jonathan Pearce.

Awful commentator.

I do not think England will go very far. We are about a level behind the top teams.
But yes, there were some meaty challenges. Colombia were a tad hard done by.

Still, they have got further than the men's team managed.

Just watching Spain now - they are very very good. Excellent technique.

Leave Jonathan Pearce alone. Anyone who was in the Sopranos is ok by me.

Having watched England against Mexico and against Colombia (and the highlights of the France game) it does seem as though lapses in concentration are costing us.

Overall play has been good (mostly) but a definite sense of panic has set in around the hour mark when the realisation hits that one goal and the opposition are back in it..... and the opposition duly score.

Particular worry for me is that so many of the England squad seem to be only just back from or nursing a current injury. And this seems to be key players who have either been subbed off or only come on as sub to minimise risk.

Gill Scott was raved about by Pearce during the Mexico game but just ran around like a headless chicken.
Aluko looks like she's going to burst into tears at any moment
Fran Kirby is having a great tournament

Refereeing last night (against Colombia) was hit and miss, something they've got from the men's game. For example, England gave away a free kick and the ref was about to have a chat with the player but the Colombian's took the kick 20 yards up field and went on the attack.

From the bits I've seen Carney needs to play every minute she is fit to play.

It's Robot Wars on the telly that gets him in Sopranos, series 5 from memory, Mergers & Acquisitions.

I'm not sure the climate in Canada is conducive to plush grass.

Last night Germany were really impressive and brushed Sweden away with ease.

China were lucky (although their forward mucked up about 3 one on one's with the goalkeeper).

I think it's more of a consistency thing, some venues could easily have grass, others not so much, although you have to bear in mind that they need to use the venues throughout much of the year when growing grass might be difficult.
I'm not a football fan really, but quite like the women's game, far less of the amateur dramatics which makes it more pleasant to watch for me.
I'm at the Ottawa venue so we get England tomorrow for the first time. I might even watch it. smile
