No, we were crap this season with an old, injury prone squad and a manager who announced he was leaving half way through the season.
We got better than we deserved this season. The difference is though that we have won the title, twice, in the last few years.
And we've got a new manager coming, as have Chelsea who I see as the real threat from London next season.

So you should have won the league in the last few years given the money that's been spent. If you're trying to use injuries as an excuse that'll fall on deaf ears in here!

You've hit the nail on the head there Alfa, do you think if Wenger had been more willing to spend some of the reserve then your thread title might read "Arsenal- Premiership Champions" ?

No.

I think our issues are greater than the need to buy players. Our Manager is a tactical dinosaur , he just doesn't have a clue. We need to strengthen yes, however we also need a manager who understands the need to be able to adapt in the modern game and has the ability to address the issues the team has. Wenger no longer has any of the qualities we need to move on.

Having said all that he isn't going anywhere and we'll all be sat here a year from now bemoaning another wasted season. We can chuckle at Spurs tonight but I think they'll improve again and next year I think they WILL finish above us.

I don't think Arsenal lack the tactics to win the league. If anything you need better physios or more robust players, but the key thing for me that Arsenal lack is mentality. Far too many games this season Arsenal have been complacent or just lacked that winning mentality.

yes

In my view, the players have finished where they are in spite of having a Wenger shaped noose around their necks.
As you say, it will be same old, same old for another couple of seasons.
One of the guys that sits next to us went down to the bar at half time, and when he came back, he said that they played an interview with Silent Stan on the TV screens down there and as soon as he appeared there was a volley of plastic beakers chucked at the TV screens amid jeers of derision....especially, at the "Arsenal is a good business" quote from him

fk me that was hilarious yesterday....can't quite believe how that unfolded. With us 1-0 up having spurned a load of opportunities and Spurs having got one back to be 2-1 early second half it felt like it was going to be a really nerve racking end to the game.....how wrong I was!

Only 1 team can bottle it worse than us and it can only be Spurs laugh
They had to win every single game, it was hardly an easy feat.

Both teams won nothing, both are in the top 4. First of the losers or second of the losers makes little difference.

Except that if the Spuds had finished above us it would have been how North London has been painted white etc, commemorative album etc

Suddenly Spurs fans don't care about finishing behind us, but when they were 2nd they couldn't make enough noise about it.

It's still a #wengerout for me, no matter where we ended up in the league.

wenger doesnt like to be challened especially by his players..... so expect more weak minded individuals like the ramseys and girouds of this world until wenger is actually forced out.

I hear SAF didn't like to be challenged, doesn't mean you can't have strong minded players.

Ha!

I wonder what drove them into action so early

a) The desire to strengthen the team
b) To stimulate season ticket sales
c) Convince Alexis and Ozil that the club is ambitious and please sign a new contract
d) Worried about him going somewhere else

I reckon it's a combination of "b" and "c" but would like to think it was "a"

Someone I know who is on the season ticket list got a phone call from the club a few weeks ago asking him if the club didn't make CL football whether he would take up his ticket if one was offered to him. Clearly they reckon a st load of season ticket holders wouldn't renew if the club didn't make Top 4.

In more positive news, it's fantastic news about Xhaka....seems to be the player we desperately needed for so long last season. Central Midfield suddenly looks to be quite competitive

Cazorla
Le Coq
Elneny
Wilshere
Ramsey
Xhaka

Even with assuming we get the standard two players out for a season there will be serious competition...who knows we might be able to actually rest/rotate players...wouldn't that be a novelty!

Is he the world class mid we needed? Cant say id even heard of him before. Would his signing really influence players of the calibre of Ozil whos played with the best, has a world cup winners medal and played at arguably the biggest club the world already?
