Discussion
Anyone concerned by Arsenal's relative lack of activity in the transfer market compared to competitors only need look to Ivan Gazidis for some rallying words of encouragement and a show of positive intent.
Oh wait.
So after years of being told that once the new commercial deals kicked in we'd be in a position to compete financially for the best players with any club in the world, it looks like we are now in line for some more expectation management.
Still, we never really believed it would be any different did we.
Oh wait.

“Leicester identified players from the French second division, so maybe there’s talent that we’ve been overlooking" "They did their talent identification well, they had great unity within the group, as well as quality".
“It wasn’t built on money. It was built on the great fitness work they did. It was built on all of these other elements. I think that’s going to be a continuing trend within the Premier League".
“We’re making progress in what is a fiercely competitive world, against competitors that have the capability to spend far more money than we do".
“We’re doing it by being very, very disciplined; spending money where we believe it makes a difference, but also giving young players a chance and believing in ourselves and our values.”
The sweet, comforting embrace of familiarity.“It wasn’t built on money. It was built on the great fitness work they did. It was built on all of these other elements. I think that’s going to be a continuing trend within the Premier League".

What about the £100m you got in TV money, let alone any commercial dealsSo after years of being told that once the new commercial deals kicked in we'd be in a position to compete financially for the best players with any club in the world, it looks like we are now in line for some more expectation management.

I certainly never did, I'm far too much of a realist. Nothing is going to change while Silent Stan is at the helm IMHO.He publically stated in past 12 months that he's not interested in winning trophies, its a business that he makes money from to him.

According to reports in france, We've agreed an offer with Mahrez with an offer of £40m soon going Leicester'Square way.
Great news if true. We got a top quality player and it's puts a bullet in one of Walcott or Chamberlain.
I watched Leicesters friendly with Celtic on Sky earlier. If we've got a deal done for Mahrez i'll be a damn sight happier than Vardy, he was st hot for the 70 mins he was on the field and thats only their second warm up game. I shant hold my breath though... and the fact that he played makes me doubt it a lot.Great news if true. We got a top quality player and it's puts a bullet in one of Walcott or Chamberlain.
Be delighted but am not holding my breath.
Higuain apparently off to Juve for £80mil....fking mental. He'll be worth the square root of fk all in four years time when he's 33. Weighted against his age/potential resale value at the end of the contract I reckon it makes him the most expensive player. Assuming he's on £10mil a year that means with £20mil depreciation a year he's costing £30mil a year....so £1mil a goal in a 30 goal season!

still on the positive side (is there an emoticon for irony?) --- we've signed 2 more 'promising' teenagers/youngsters, and as Wenger says the transfer window is open until the end of August; On the downside IF we do sign a quality striker then they;ll miss a handful of games at the beginning of the season.
Not sure why i expected/hoped that this summer would be any different to those from the past; Linked with the world and his wife, and will likely still enter the season 'missing' quality in atleast 2 areas - defence/striker.

Mahrez for 40m is a joke, we should be getting at least 55-60m. I cannot believe once again Arsenal haven't signed a world class forward!
We can, nothing to see here, move along. Wenger will buy someone weve never heard of, for £2.50 and a bag of cheesy puffs with 10 seconds to go in the transfer window. Cupramax said:
