That's the 'official' reason.......
I'm beginning to wonder (I think others are as well) if there were other more fundamental reasons for his departure....AW doesn't like being challenged, and probably especially by former players.
This is a significant part of the problem. He likes yes men; nodding dogs, sat on the parcel shelf of his Citroen DS Hybrid. Do as I say, not as I do. Giroud wants the adventure to continue.

It's a massive cluster fk...how an EMPLOYEE of a listed company can be allowed to have as much power as Wenger had is incredible. Corporate governance is just appalling.
It looks to me that either the players have gipven up on Wenger or they can't handle the pressure created by his contract and the Ozila and Sanchez contract issues. Ozil has reported for Germany despite not being fit for WBA, he's hardly played since his agent said he was fed up of being the scapegoat.

As much as i dont like it i really dont want that sort of thing going on. This needs to be hurting the club. Wenger obviously loves the club, he's just lost the plot and is past his best. The issue is governance and the spineless board, thats where the pressure needs to be targeted...

The board and Wenger are both greedy. The current team is not good enough. It's no good Arsenal celebrating if they are able to persuade Sanchez/Ozil to stay if the rest of the team remains the same, the whole team + manager + board need a overhaul.

You're talking in business terms. But as a business it's all going well isn't it? Profitable, captive customer base with recurring revenue, cash rich and generative, good assets like the ground. From a business perspective what's not to like so I don't think you can accuse the board or Wenger from this angle.Obviously fans aren't too interested about the business end, unless you support Coventry City, and want success and excitement.
If the business people running the business see continued financial success what's the urgency to change it?
Just reading some comments by a French football journalist called Philippe Auclair whose a pretty good journalist in my opinion. He's made the point that the Bayern result made Wenger more and not less likely to hang around....not one for quitting on a low.
All these press reports of a "transfer war chest" would indicate he's staying too...although £100mil doesn't get you very much these days. Especially if that's being generated from selling your best (Sannchez) and most talented (Ozil) players. That's what we spent on Mustafi, Xhaka, Perez and Holding last year....and you could argue only Holding has been successful.

Not one for quitting full stop.....that's the problem.Unlike Fergie, who had built a life beyond before quitting, and was happy to move upstairs, Wenger is consumed by it, and admitted when asked about the fact that Fergie had said he doesn't miss it after retiring, that he couldn't comprehend that.
That was when I thought that he'd just go on and on and on.....he probably wants the status of being the oldest ELP manger, oldest manger ever in world football, even if by then we're in a relegation battle for staying in the EPL as he's so past it.......

Meanwhile......I see its been announced that Podders will be Germany's Captain tomorrow night in the game against England.
BBC said:
Lukas Podolski will captain Germany against England in Wednesday's friendly as he wins his 130th and final cap.
The 31-year-old Galatasaray and former Arsenal forward quit international football after Euro 2016 but returns for a farewell game in Dortmund.
"It's not easy to replace Podolski in the team. He is unique. He is one of the greatest players that Germany has produced," said boss Joachim Low.
Podolski, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, will join Japanese side Vissel Kobe after the Turkish season ends in May.
Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler, Mario Gomez and are all injured.
Of course our esteemed manager clearly thought he wasn't that good given just how few full 90 min games he played for us ..... The 31-year-old Galatasaray and former Arsenal forward quit international football after Euro 2016 but returns for a farewell game in Dortmund.

Podolski was a great proven striker, but as he wasn't a midfield midget he didn't fit Wenger's style of play.
Podolski was past his sell by date when he came to Arsenal just like Mertesacker, tbh I think it was embarrassing buying them, it sums Arsenal up in recent times rather than buying current top players they buy a couple of hasbeens.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
