Podolski was past his sell by date when he came to Arsenal just like Mertesacker, tbh I think it was embarrassing buying them, it sums Arsenal up in recent times rather than buying current top players they buy a couple of hasbeens.
There are some players of Pod's era who are still causing problems for teams they're played against today. Raygun said:

Podolski was a great proven striker, but as he wasn't a midfield midget he didn't fit Wenger's style of play.

Still better than Santos. Just seen a headline from the Times sports on my feed:
"Hector Bellerin will stay at Arsenal this summer despite interest from Barcelona and Manchester City - provided that Arsene Wenger signs a new contract at the Emirates."
Can't get my head around these statements.

He's just signed a new long term contract....of all the players at Arsenal he's not got much choice at the moment. And he's been utter ste for the last couple of months though...there's a suspicion he's playing through injury but that doesn't mean you can't concentrate.
Dear Hector.

I don't see his pace anymore, the injury has really affected him - whether carrying it or not. You could see that in the West Brom match where he was caught up field and couldn't catch up when tracking back.Dear Hector.

Rumour mill says AW will sign a new 2 yr contract, which will be announced at the outset as his final 2 years, during which time he will help the club secure a replacement whilst simultaneously turning the team around so the new man (or woman) takes over a winning team.
Not sure how he is going to accomplish both of those tasks given he's failed with just the one for the last decade, but there is it.
Of course, might not be true.

I can think of 20,000,000 reasons why he wants to try though. Not sure how he is going to accomplish both of those tasks given he's failed with just the one for the last decade, but there is it.

Rumours on Twitter that Gazidis is going to go because he wanted AW to go but he isn't going anywhere as we all know. IF IG does go then it is the only good thing he has done on his ~£3M pa salary.
Mind you when you recruit your own boss as AW did with Gazidis you do wonder who the (le?) boss really is. Oh no, wait, we do know who the boss is.

Need a football man in there. Someone who wants to see the club succeed on the pitch. Mind you when you recruit your own boss as AW did with Gazidis you do wonder who the (le?) boss really is. Oh no, wait, we do know who the boss is.

ahhh so his previous statements of promising an EPL title in 3 years or being able to compete financially now we are at the emirates are replaced by, get paid £16m to facilitate the new manager ? thats the new job title ? the just cut the clown now and save the £16m .... this is becoming yet another Islington farce and most corbynesque!

Saw this on the BBC's gossip web page this morning....staggering arrogance from the man if true!
I hate that "you owe me" attitude. I hear this a lot at Chelsea, when Lampard was let go and now Terry is nearing the end. Apparently, according to many fans, they "deserve" a new contract. Because of "what they have done for us".BBC said:
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger says fans need to get some "perspective" and remember what he has done for the club.
bks. Yes, they've both been brilliant for Chelsea, and Chelsea have been brilliant for them. They are both hugely wealthy and have won loads of trophies. We owe them nothing and they owe us nothing. It's business, a contract. They agreed to play football for us, we agreed to pay them hugely for their services. End of story.
Wenger has, overall, been great for Arsenal. And Arsenal has been great for Wenger. If he is no longer great for Arsenal, then they should send him packing.

I mean, who does one of the best German players of his generation, and among the few true finishers in world football think he is?

I'm afraid it was a nothing match, I dare say all footballers who have past their prime have got a decent goal still left in them, also when he joined Arsenal he was no longer needed at his German club. If Arsenal had bought him in his prime I would said that is a statement of intent. It's a wonder Arsenal haven't put a bid in for Rooney like they did with Silvestre.I think Podolski wasn't liked (by Wenger) after he [probably] questioned his style/tactics. If AW does go it is going to leave the club in a mess for the new manager to sort. It's an autocracy and I can't see any short term improvement. Whoever it is will be In it for the long haul i guess.
I'm not an Arsenal fan but they are my favourite team out of the big clubs. No way is this club in a crisis or a mess - in fact the way it is run was lauded as a shining example until the anti wenger sentiment started to boil over. There was an analysis done that suggested arsenal could get relegated and still maintain the same running costs for a number of years. Fans under 30 bored of top 4 league finish and quarter final champions league knock out football every year, my heart bleeds. Wanting to compete with Chelsea and Man city in the transfer market without acknowledging the infinite resources of their owners - yeah that worked for leeds utd didn't it.
Arsenal are a victim of the money game and other clubs being able to throw 100s of millions at trying to win every year. For me it's a credit to Wenger for not taking that gamble and still achieving success in terms of high league finishes.
If you want to know what real boring is I recommend watching a george graham managed arsenal team.
