Draw about fair, Cech saved you big time, sounds like we got lucky with an offside (missed first 15 mins) - as an LFC fan I was very pleased with the first half and better defending, and a point away is good against a top 4 side

It was a goal but level so thats the kind of thing that evens itself out over the course of a season, so they say. Arsenal should have penetrated more in the 2nd half - their possesion was ridiculous. Liverpool defended well and were very cool - the exact opposite of Arsenal in the first half.

Draw was fair.

Arsenal had a penalty shout with Lucas on Giroud and we had a shout with Gabriel on Benteke. Either of them could have been given, but I'm glad the game wasn't decided with a pen.
That sounds about right.

I have a rugby fan mate, typical Welsh rugby fan. He can't mention rugby without making a derogatory remark about football (know a few of them actually, but that is Wales for you!). One of the things he always brings up is how much of a waste of time a game is when it finishes 0-0, as if it is automatically a bad game. Stupid thing to say - that was a fantastic match.

Hmm, I saw the hand over his shoulder but no shirt being pulled, and short of Gabriel literally stepping to one side to let him past then not sure how he couldn't not 'impede' him. Haven't seen it mentioned in any match reports or even in live commentary feeds either.
It was mentioned as a foul where I was watching (Cyprus) with Jeff Keys and Andy Gray, and er Joey Barton (not sure what channel it was)

Anyway an enjoyable game despite no goals, best of luck with rest of season except at anfield of course smile

F'ing hell how many chances do we want to gift Liverpool. Making them look good at the moment..
Because of my own football commitments as this season I'm yet see any of the matches . However, it concerns me that the comments such as yours and the results seem to be worryingly reminiscent of just about every season for the last 7-8 years.

Neville on Sky post match said Benteke wasn't a penalty and the foul on Giroud was.

Regardless didn't deserve to win and we couldn't score in a brothel. We desperately need what everyone has been saying all summer...a striker and a DM.

We have a lot of very good but not outstanding players. We're playing like we did in that spell last season when Sanchez single handedly kept us in/won games.

The more I think about last night the more I think Wenger got it wrong....with that back four we should have added some bite and/or experience to midfield. I think Santi should have been replaced with Ramsey or Arteta. Our first priority should have been to have had better protection in front of that back four.

One thing I forgot to mention which was very telling I thought..Cech was interviewed after the game by Sky and asked if he thought Arsenal were a PL winning team. He gave a suitably vague answer and his eyes told you all you needed to know....he knows this is not a team/squad that can win the PL.

We all knew that before we'd even kicked a ball this season. Unfortunately, the manager just refuses point blank to accept we need to strengthen. He's the only person in the world of football that doesn't see the weaknesses in our team.

In the summer I said we needed a keeper and defensive midfielder. Unfortunately, I've been proved wrong. We need a world class striker but there now isn't anyone available. We've left it too late.

Copy and paste my comments and use them again next August. It's the same every year and it's just boring talking about it!

Well it's plain to see that yet again for about the 7th year in a row we're at least 2 players short.
Chambers was woeful and like Gabriel loves to hold onto the opposing player, mind you Gabriel does have some pace which Chambers seems to lack.

Def need someone to take over from Coquelin or to fill in with him, and a striker, sorry, a striker with presence and some pace.

I don't think it's fair to be too critical of Chambers and Gabriel. These players are not being given game time and then expecting to gel seamlessly when they they are suddenly thrown in to the team.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there hasn't been a world class striker available all summer so I'd love to know how we've left it too late.

I can't believe the amount of negativity in this thread and we're only a handful of games into the season and there's still time left in the transfer window.

Regarding the game, should have gone in at half time 1 nil up and then we completely dominated the second half, ok Cech had to make a few saves but is that not what we signed him for?

The goals will come and i'm hopeful a signing too but if not i'm still looking forward to see how this season pans out, judging us after 3 games just dosent make sense.

''we're only a handful of games into the season and there's still time left in the transfer window.''

yes we are only 3 games in and there's still time left in the window, but the reality is that in this league, the chance of winning it can be all but gone if any team (however good they are) gets off to an iffy start.

as for Chambers/Gabriel, my point wasn't how badly/well they gelled, more about how they performed individually, and to my mind since Chambers had a roasting 1 game last season ( cant recall which game) i dont think he's been 'right'. He looks one paced, seems to want to wrestle ...anyway, if they're the best we have as 2nd string, let's hope we don't have to deploy them in tandem too often!

Wow you sound as deluded as Wenger,.

Neville quite scathing on AW but only saying what everyone thinks.

Why didn't you go for Pedro?

When the Mad Professor stated there were 'no top strikers' available I think he meant there were none less that £50m.

Papers suggesting a £15m bid has been tabled for Ruskie, Alexander Kokorin.

Seems about right.

ETA:

Reading also that we *might* be in for Jakub Blaszczykowski if we can't/don't get Grzegorz Krychowiak. Can't be made up because who can spell these names, never mind pronounce them?

Why, when you've got so much cash in the bank don't you just pay the silly money for a top quality striker?

All this rubbish about no-one being available is just that...rubbish. We see year in, year out, that for a price everyone is available.

Likewise for a DM.

It baffles me how managers and staff of clubs who are paid millions don't sign players in positions that everyone on the outside can see so clearly are needed.

Looks like you've drawn your smaller, less successful and vastly inferior neighbours away in the League Cup. scratchchin

Agree. The problems on Monday were as much to do with how the midfield set up/performed as they were with the central defence....apparently Arsenal lost the ball 20 times in their own half during the first 45 mins of which every single player was guilty at least once.

For a reminder all and sundry thought Chambers looked great when playing CB this time last year and Gabriel looks great to me...he's not scared to get stuck in, looks quick and shows plenty of competitive spirit.

Chambers isn't a centre back though so why play him there? Much better on the right imho.

Chambers is a centre back who has been used on the right by both Sputhampton & Arsenal because of his versatility. I hope we don't end with a problem like United have with Jones. He gets shunted all round the team, never settles in any position and subsequently becomes a jack of all trades and master of none.
