Correct me if I'm wrong but there hasn't been a world class striker available all summer so I'd love to know how we've left it too late.
I can't believe the amount of negativity in this thread and we're only a handful of games into the season and there's still time left in the transfer window.
Regarding the game, should have gone in at half time 1 nil up and then we completely dominated the second half, ok Cech had to make a few saves but is that not what we signed him for?
The goals will come and i'm hopeful a signing too but if not i'm still looking forward to see how this season pans out, judging us after 3 games just dosent make sense.
Firstly, the striker issue. We've left it too late because others all around us have strengthened in the areas they needed to and in the case of Chelsea they've reacted decisively and positively to their poor start whilst we're again slow and ponderous to act. Pedro would have been a major benefit to our team, so would have Jackson Martinez who moved earlier In the window. There's two players; both of whom were realistic, obtainable targets. The negativity stems not from 3 games this season. It's a continuing malaise going back 5, 6, 7 seasons maybe more. 3 games in; we've started like we did last season. We are showing the same weaknesses as last season, we're already 5 points adrift of Man City. We continue to have no plan B, we have no leadership, we're have insufficient quality in DM Positions.
Wake up. This isn't a reaction to 3 games, these are not new issues, we are making the same mistakes season in season out and show no sign that we're taking the right steps to resolve them.
I get bloody infuriated by the 'we've only played 3 games, let's see how it pans out' mindset of some supporters. If we haven't fixed the problems of the previous seasons in August what on earth gives you or anyone else the belief that suddenly everything's going to be alright?
I can't see anyone coming in now. I think we'll go with what we've got. But I'm telling you now; without the defensive midfielder or top class striker we need we'll just be making up the numbers again. I for one have more ambition than that.

Well it's plain to see that yet again for about the 7th year in a row we're at least 2 players short.
Chambers was woeful and like Gabriel loves to hold onto the opposing player, mind you Gabriel does have some pace which Chambers seems to lack.
Chambers isn't a centre back though so why play him there? Much better on the right imho.Chambers was woeful and like Gabriel loves to hold onto the opposing player, mind you Gabriel does have some pace which Chambers seems to lack.
TX.
In terms of our ability to sign big name players....worth pointing out that both Ozil and Sanchez were deemed surplus to requirements at their clubs. I just don't think Arsenal have got the appetite to go in and pay the massive amounts to dislodge those kind of players from a club that doesn't want to sell him. Pedro would have been a good addition but he doesn't change the main issue of a world class No 9....and that would have meant I think either The Ox or Walcott going.
@ Alfahorn, i'm with you on this topic. Its long seated and its been the same year after year.
Who knows whether they'd have bought Benzema for 40m if he'd been available/interested,? Irrespective of that, its a fair chunk of change for a 28yr old...but in regard to splashing cash for a 23/24yr old DM at 30m, you'd kind of hope that you'd get a fair return in performance and resale at a later date.
i too doubt that we'll bring anyone in, or rather, if we do it'll be a lightweight/makeweight. And to be frank, with what we have now, i'd reckon 4th might be achieveable. Win it, no way.

Tim Stillman has written an interesting piece on Arseblog about Arsenal's transfer dealings. Not sure how much I agree with it but food for thought and worth a read.
And on a different note - Champions League group is..... interesting. Obviously Bayern are not who you want to draw, but there were teams in pot 3 and 4 that are far worse than Olympiakos and Zagreb (on paper).

I thought Lacazette would have been worth a punt? Ok he only recently started playing striker, but he's doing a bloody good job. 27 goals last season is not to be sniffed at.
I can see a loan for someone. And let's not forget that January isn't too far away for Wenger if he can't grab the deal he wants. Wenger is my favourite person in a transfer window.
He's now got to that stubborn old man stage in life where no matter how clearly it's pointed, and by who, he refuses to accept it and goes his own way in order to prove them wrong.
And another season ticks over where you are 1-2 players short.
