Only team in Top 5 leagues in Europe not to sign an outfield player. That is quite incredible. Even by Arsenal standards.

They finished third last year and have strengthened. Utd and Chelsea may have been more active in the market, but I honestly think Arsenal have done as well or even better (looking at Utd) than them this summer.

I bet there's not one Arsenal fan out there that is happy that they have not made a signing other that Cech this summer.

The Arse have a terrific side that i felt were good enough to win the league with a few players added but sadly for them it's just not going to happen again this season & their fans know it.

Story of the last decade (well almost) really. Ever since David Dein left, Arsenal's transfer policy has been highly questionable imo.

Never mind the shareholders will be very happy with 3rd or 4th again - for them spending next to nothing and coming 4th is probably more profitable than spending 100m+ and winning the league.

Was intrigued on the difference in prize money between 4th and winning it, so looked up last years money. For each position in the league is £1.2 million, so difference of 1st to 4th is only £3.6 million. Most of the money comes in TV rights (£54 million split equally across all teams) and live games (£850k per live game). So to be financially successful (assuring you don't miss out on champions league) it isn't that much financial gain to spend 100 million to win the league.

Though champs league has potential to earn a team 100 million, as 12 million for taking part, 1.5 million for a match win, and 15 million for winning it. Then they get 50 million for marketing (TV) rights. This is all in euros.

So not spending big (like City have) shows me that Wenger doesn't believe he can win champs league without spending a fortune, and to keep the club ticking over nicely, playing attractive football (to get TV rights) and coming in the top 4 is good business.

Groundhog Day. Agree totally about Dein.

The disinformation from Arsenal has already started with articles like this

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transf...

Lets face it saying they were going for Benzema/Cavani is as good as saying they weren't going for anyone....he's totally unobtainable unless Real want to sell. As Man U found out with Ramos. And that's been the key factor in both our big acquisitions....Ozil and Sanchez were both unwanted at their clubs (great players though they both are). I just don't think we have the balls to go in big enough to dislodge great players from clubs that don't want to sell.

We've been here before, Wenger's taken plenty of risks with the squad and had much worse squads than this but the standard of the chasing pack is higher than it's ever been right now. The good news is that I think Man U seem to be all over the shop and it says something for what we fans really know that not one of us when we saw Monaco play at The Emirates were calling for Martial to be signed. I read that Chelsea tried to sign him two months ago for £40mil but were told he wasn't for sale....when Monaco went out of the CL that changed. Chelski furious apparently...every cloud.

The player we should have signed was Schneiderlin...totally obtainable and would definitely have been an upgrade on Arteta and Flamini. That's the one I am genuinely disappointed about.

Maybe next summer will bring Pogba and Reus....I am sure we're saving our money for the big splash in 2016!

Don't worry though we've got Joel Campbell....

Can you imagine the scenes if we lose our next game at home to Stoke? Wenger and the board have put themselves under even more pressure now...

Gary Neville said it is arrogance. Thierry Henry suggested it is more a case of confidence. I say it's defiance.

It's that same defiance that we've all come to accept that he won't spend when he needs to; he will sell when the fans don't want him to; he won't devise a plan B when every manager in every league knows our plan A; he won't bring on an attacking option when we desperately need a goal... and it is that same defiance that keeps him at the club.

Wasn't Wenger supposed to have a £200million 'war chest'?

What the fk happened to it? If we were going to have a serious crack at winning the league we needed to sign a defender and 2 world class strikers because currently we have zero. If we want to compete with the likes of City/Chelsea/ManU then we have to spend big every year, but we have a manager who seems to be stuck in the 90's or has a genuine phobia of spending money!

Don't worry though chaps, one thing the board havn't forgot to do is raise ticket prices again....

Isn't that part of the problem? The Arabs and the Russian have a bottomless pit of money to spend and will always spend more.

This club is a total embarrassment.

I feel sadly fully vindicated for the vitriol I've aimed at the Manager and the board in recent seasons. I cannot see how we're going improve on last season , I just can't.

We're always 2 or 3 players away and this years no different. Another season wasted, another year when we are getting no closer to challenging.

If we doing something remarkable and challenge seriously for the title then I'll swallow my pride and come on and apologise.

Uncanny for all the criticism I've had on here I'm right a hell of a lot more often than I'm wrong.

The combine net worth of Kroenke and Usmanov surpasses that of Abramovich by 6 Billion USD!

This occurred to me earlier...the natives will get fking restless very quickly. When I was at the West Ham game I almost couldn't believe the apathy in the crowd....nothing like we saw in that opening day loss to Villa for example.

If things don't go well it will get heated pretty quickly now I think.

They'll have no one to blame but themselves.
