Completely agree as a fan, and I think that players when they finish their career want to look at winners medals (of whatever kind) but, as a club the only way to keep the players (and then hopefully win something) you currently need to be in the top 4 more often than not.

As you say...the money is pretty immaterial now for the odd season. But you'll know, if Liverpool finish outside the top 4 but win the Carling cup (or whatever it's called) it won't be enough to stop the Spanish vultures descending on Coutinho.
Probably not no, but thats football, players come and players go not one to get that wound up about it...
Someone wants to go always been on the side that says cya... no1 should be at a club when they want to play elsewhere, creates a bad vibe

In the early stages yes, but getting into the latter stages they don't bar a player or two.

Winning a trophy should take precedent for all teams over a top 4 finish. I guess that's the desperation to play in the "elite" competition that I'd always say plays second fiddle to winning the domestic league. Coming 2-3-4 gets forgotten about quite easily.

The lean years catch up on managers and questions start being asked of them if they don't deliver silverware. LVG was on his way out before the FA cup final kicked off. At a guess I would say your man Poch if he doesn't deliver a trophy in the next 3 years will be on his way out.
Whether it should take precedent to win a trophy doesn't escape the fact that it doesn't. LVG won the FA Cup, finished 5th and was sacked. Winning a cup didn't make a difference to the fans or the owners. If he finished 2nd in the league every year but not won any cups, I'd suggest that he may still be there. Ditto Pellegrini, won a cup, finished 4th, sacked. How can a 38 game season against all the other Prem teams not determine which clubs/managers have performed best?

The top 6 prioritise the league above all other competitions. You seem to suggest that a manager's performance should be judged in competitions that are only a secondary priority. So are you suggesting that LVG and Pellegrini performed better last season Ranieri, Wenger and Poch because with all their huge financial resources they managed to win a domestic cup in competitions that most teams field weakened sides? They were both sacked at the end of the season IIRC? I don't remember too many fans suggesting that they should stay on because they performed so well...
Not at all..not even 1 bit , I simply said if Posch is out performing all the others should he not be top of the league and winning cups
then I stated personally as a fan I would get a lot more enjoyment on going to a final and winning it than coming 2nd 3rd or 4th..
He's currently out-performing 4 of the top 5 managers and did so last year too. The table doesn't lie. Even moreso if you fact in financial resources vs performance, he's way ahead of the other 5 clubs/managers. Perhaps had Spurs been away to Shrewsbury in the 5th round and not a Premiership team, they too would have gone on to win the FA Cup?

LVG finished 4th, then 5th the next year that's why he was sacked. We were going backwards, despite his FA cup win. Not only that but his brand of football was awful and the club had seen enough. Jose was available and the club pounced. I suspect if he wasn't quite possibly LVG would have been given a 3rd year.

Ooh ooh, excitement at Huish Park as a Tottenham striker lands on loan...

http://www.ytfc.net/news/article/2016-17/shayon-ha...

If he's anything like the other Spuds we've had on loan through the years (Caulker, Mason and Townsend among others), we are in for a treat. Has played seven minutes for the first team this season v Liverpool in the League Cup.

Anyone know anything about him at all?

Must be comforting for the plastic fans that flip flop between the two clubs.
I doubt that has ever happened even once in the whole history of the solar system.

IMO, The club's biggest problem will be maintaining this momentum during the transition, first to Wembley, then into our new stadium. If Poch can keep the squad together, content and competitive during the next three seasons, he'll deserve his own statue on Tottenham High Road.

Banged in plenty of goals for the U21s.

You big tease, I got excited for a moment that TPVJ was going to get an opportunity to have an extended run in a side and show us what we've paid £17million for.

hehe

Sorry about that.

The first tweet I saw after we announced it was from a Spurs fan complaining that Harrison should be on the bench and Janssen going out on loan instead.

Only one team in it today. ( I reserve the right not to mention which team that is).

Just remember playing them is like taking sweets from a baby, so don't humiliate them too much!

If Poch plays the pressing against the goalkeeper and backs as he did at WHL them its a shoo-in. If he doesnt, could go either way, but i will take a draw

Yeah i agree sir.

Really cannot see why Poch would or need to change anything about the way we are currently playing.

Our full backs against theirs should be fun too.

I can see you putting 3 past them easy today. You're playing well and their defence is weak!

They are a wounded animal and their manager has had to defend accusations he'd accused the players of being poor. So they will be out to prove a point today. Think we will get turned over.

Any team that has players like Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva, & Toure playing for them is frightening in my opinion.

Just hoping that our players have the desire to win.

I'd take a point all day long.
