Let's face facts. A foreign player is given the option to spend the next five years and his ginormous salary in either Liverpool or London.

No brainer really. Only an utterly deranged, certifiable lunatic would choose Liverpool.

Unfortunately, he must be an utterly deranged, certifiable lunatic anyway because he signed for Newcastle...

So if Sissoko as expected smashes it up in the Prem this season playing for a quality team like ourselves & when Real & Barca undoubtedly come knocking for lets say £100M plus would mean that we could be getting the play for as little as £10M thumbup

This deal is looking like another transfer masterstroke by our amazing chairman.

Did the Scousers pay £25M up front for the Windmill man ?

If you sold him after a season you would only pay 6 million, and get to keep the sale transfer.
Apparently.

I very much doubt that the 25 million was paid in one hit but it is increasingly common for installment to paid over a few years and there are a few lenders who will factor the fees (and the TV money for that matter)

Joking aside the Sissoko deal looks pretty good for us.

Levy is undoubtedly one of the best in the game. I know a very experienced football agent who has to take a few deep breaths and count to ten before speaking to him.

I would imagine the deal is 5 x 6million with any shortfall being made up by the fee so if you got 10 million after 3 years it would 3x6 + 10 = 28.

I think someone said before that 30 million is the new 5 million. Expectations have to be reset for a few years as 30 million is just not "that much" any more.

Barmy. But if he plays like he did in the Euros for a few games a year - who cares how much?

Nah, we did a DFS deal with Newcastle, £1 down with nothing to pay for the next 3 years.

Also apparently if another club comes in for him a few years later Newcastle will pay us back the 25 million plus the extra fee and throw in a couple of sandwiches for free too.

Think it was you guys having a quick visit in our area (to see what a collection of (classic) trophies look like?! wink). It was "what a terrible signing" on from all of you here earlier, but now has changed to "what a genius piece of work" - so we didn't start it! biggrin

It feels like Ashley has got one over Levy, £30M for a 27 year old from Newcastle he must have gone mad.

levy would never pay 30m for a 27 year old..... this is how I see it.....

he offered 16, Ashley said no..... no other takers.... window closing fast..... player wants to be outta there... Ashley wants 30, so says i'll take 30 in 5 yearly instalments...... everton jump in, levy reconsiders as thinks 5 X 6 not a bad deal..... player initially thinks anything better than Newcastle, so agrees things with everton... when learns spurs are interested, Ashley has no choice but to negotiate with levy, who gets the yearly deal ... not 30m in instalments, but 6/m year whilst he plays for spurs.....

genius.....

Sissoko spoke to Lloris and only wanted to move to Spurs.

It doesn't matter if Everton and Newcastle agreed a deal if Sissoko didn't want to go there.

Therefore Spurs were able to conclude a deal with more favourable terms.

Newcastle were desperate to move Sissoko on, so must be happy.

All messing around aside, as mentioned above the fee you get from selling him presumably is included in the deal towards Newcastle somehow. Otherwise it makes not much sense from a Newcastle perspective.

Previously offered 16M total, declined. The new offer (if only related to a yearly cost of playing for you) means if he flops (approximately 30% will do so) then he's likely to be sold after say a year. 6 million to Newcastle, you guys probably make a profit as someone will take a punt on him for 6M. If he's ok (approximately 30% chance) you maybe have him 2-3 years. Say 15 million as an average then. He does really well for you, becomes settled and a fan favourite. He might play 4-5 years, but perhaps likely less since he would then be a bit old perhaps. Say that would be 24 million average perhaps.

So they are more likely to get less than their initial offer they turned down (approximately 65% probability). There is an upside related to the 5 years/ 30 million, but that actually has a lower value than 30 million since the net present value of the money in the future will be lower since payments are delayed (probably a few million). So unless they do a big gamble in the hope of him staying with you for ages then they accepted a worse deal than they declined earlier. They also know you are likely to make 5-10M+ in a sale of him in the future even if he flops, in which case it's very little risk to you to have accepted the deal. In which case it's likely they would have pushed you harder. They do save a few million on salary though.

So when you look at all that it is unlikely to me that it is just the £6 million a year without some kind of % for his future sale going to Newcastle. That or it's bad reporting and is the full £30 million (partly performance add-ons in there?) but just paid over 5 years - like a lot of modern deals.
