Both stories read like Spurs and Everton are trying to save face. That Standard story just doesn't make sense....staged transfer payments are the absolute norm rather than the exception. What happens if Sissoko leaves in a year's time for say £20mil ? Spurs have only had to pay £6mil and turn round to Everton and say "here's £14mil instead of the £24mil we still owe you".
What is almost certain is that Ashley's played a blinder...he's sold two players who who took his club down for a total of £55mil.
The fact Sissoko got a 5 year and not a 4 year deal when he's 27 also implies that the agent was able to drive the deal.

So when you look at all that it is unlikely to me that it is just the £6 million a year without some kind of % for his future sale going to Newcastle. That or it's bad reporting and is the full £30 million (partly performance add-ons in there?) but just paid over 5 years - like a lot of modern deals.
Of course it is, Ashley is a fat odious toad, but he is not a stupid fat odious toad. And think about it, let's say we agree Sissoko is worth a minimum of 20.
Then you buy him, sell him next day for 20, keep the 20 and pay Newcastle 6 for year 1 only, and profit by 14
Yeah right
More likely it's 30 paid in 5 instalments, but if Spurs sell the balance of the 30 becomes immediately due

No we won't. You've just got to take a view over 5 seasons rather than one!
Add a few trophies and it'll be even better!
Yep I did elude to your excellent track record.Add a few trophies and it'll be even better!
If you can maintain top 4 for next couple of years you will be in great financial shape with stadium built and a strong balance sheet. The you have to hope Poch can spend it like a football manager not Arsenals profit maximisation plan

Interesting look into the finances and the stadium and what the next few years might look like.

Maybe I've played too much Football Manager, but payments spread over 5 years does not mean you can sell the player after the first year (for example, £10m), and expect not to pay the other £20m that is still owed to Newcastle.
If a deal was reached for £30m spread over 5 years, then you're paying that £30m whether you like it or not. The only thing I can think of, is if £24m was bonus/clause related which seems extremely unlikely.

This is exactly right. We are not paying 6 million per year for him, we are paying £30m. There is no escaping the fact that, for once, we paid waaaaay over the odds for someone. I amazed as he is simply not a player we even need.

But if he leaves, we don't need to continue the payments. There is no escaping the fact that, for once, we paid waaaaay over the odds for someone. I amazed as he is simply not a player we even need.
Someone on the radio was trying to explain earlier, I'm still confused.
Sissoko has signed a 5 year contract at the North London Club. For each year that Sissoko is a Spurs player, Tottenham will have to pay Newcastle £6 million.
If Sissoko leaves Tottenham within the next 5 years, Tottenham may not in fact have to pay Newcastle the full £30 million.
Example: If Tottenham sell Sissoko in 2 years time to Everton, Spurs will have already paid Newcastle £12 million. This means that Tottenham and Everton will have to negotiate who pays Newcastle the remaining £18 million.

That would effectively make the transfer fee less whatever Spurs still owe Newcastle? If the fee is £20m but Everton will also owe Newcastle £18m, then they are paying £38m in total. Which would suggest the fee to Spurs would only be £2m?Sissoko has signed a 5 year contract at the North London Club. Or is it that Newcastle have a sell-on clause which is whatever the balance outstanding is? So whilst he is a Spurs player, we pay £6m a year for 5 years. But if we sell him after 3 years, the balance of £12m is immediately payable?
Does anyone actually understand WHY we bought him?
Who do we think he is better than? Whose place will he be fighting for?
I haven't seen much of him play so I can't really comment but I haven't really seen any article at all that suggests he is much more than an average player with a bad attitude and half a dozen decent games under his belt a couple of years ago. Can anyone put a positive spin on this for me?
