The Official Tottenham Hotspud thread [Vol 8]
Discussion
Last night was the worst I have seen spurs play for years.
It's weird, when we play well all of our players looks excellent and when we play badly they all look dogst. It never seems to be one or two bad players or good.
All or nothing.
The only consolation to take from it was that we were without Kane, Dembele, Auderwireld and Lamella who you might argue are our four best players and the spine of our team.

Yes I know, it's just frustrating that we seem so close. Tottenham have usually had that one great star surrounded by a mostly mediocre team, now we have a strong team but seem to be missing that star talent (Kane not withstanding). We spent £70m so it's not like we haven't got SOME money. £40-£50m would have gotten us a known quantity with some money left over for taking a chance.

The problem is the wages...the same as it's always been. If you buy a player for 40-50 mil then they want 150 - 200k+ per week. That then completely screws up the structure for the entire club.
Which means that for the most part Spurs are shopping in the <25m and <80k a week bin.

Kane is probably our only player who I'd consider world class.
Not even close. And I like Kane.
Those 2 plus Kane are our most important players, as not only do they give confidence to the rest of the team, knowing that they are playing; they are the only ones who show leadership on the pitch. That was what was most sadly lacking from yesterday's performance.

As for wages sod it, time to man up and open those purse strings a bit if we want to be challenging for premiership and CL, otherwise we'll always be also rans. Spurs are always praised for how financially stable a club they are which is fine...if you are an accountant, it's time we took a few risks.

Glad Levy's in charge not you, we'd be a 21st century Leeds JustinF said:

Better to burn out, then to fade away! Only kidding, I'm not saying play roulette with the future of the club like they did, just wish we were a bit more competitive when it comes to bidding for some of the top talent. Some teams like Arsenal (spits on floor) have shown you can BEND the wage structure a bit for the exceptional talent without having to totally break it.

Their wage bill has been double ours for years and years. They don't have much to show for it when there are plenty of other clubs with limitless cash.Only kidding, I'm not saying play roulette with the future of the club like they did, just wish we were a bit more competitive when it comes to bidding for some of the top talent. Mark my words, we'll be selling him for £80m+ in a few years and as far as I am concerned, that is world class.
What does that make Pogba then....Solar system class? If he's solar system class, then Suarez must be Galaxy class and Messi/Ronaldo must be Universe class. And Kane might be world class in a few years. Who knows. Michael Owen looked like he'd be one of the all time greats. Things don't always pan out as you hope.
Ps. I was singing Kane's praises before most of you lot had ever heard of him, when he destroyed Chelsea on his own in an under 21 game I attended.

I'd count him as amongst the top strikers in the premiership, could probably count on one hand players I'd pick ahead of him in that role
So, by your own admission, he's the 6th best striker in the premiership. So when you factor in the Spanish, Italian, and German leagues, that makes him about 87th in the world! TwigtheWonderkid said:

The premiership is superior to the Italian league IMO so they are out, the Spanish and German Leagues only have 2 decent teams in them each so lets just say he scrapes into the top 10. Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
