6th largest revenue, second in the table. So outperforming 4 of the 5. 3rd last season, outperformed 4 of the 5 again.

Judging by the piss poor performance by the Scouse against Plymouth, I'd suggest that clubs don't care about cups and they are therefore a very poor barometer of performance.
So if you dont perform you dont care - right

As a fan - I certainly care for the cups, nothing beats (bar winning the league) winning a cup and a day out at Wembley or elsewhere if Europe

The cups & glory don't seem to rock the boats of the owners sadly.

They say one place higher in the league is worth more than winning any cup other than the CL.

Care of our dearly departed accountant. Look at the single tier stand. It's going to be incredible!

That dont bother me 1 bit - enough money in the prem now for it not to even make that much a difference if you finish 3rd or 6th, finishing 6th would give us more money than probably finishing 1st the German league now - so you can compete with pretty much any team financially if you want too..

Just saying as a fan, if I look back at my memories of Liverpool nearly all the best ones have been going to finals and winning , not finishing 2nd 3rd or 4th , very easily forgettable

The problem is that although finishing 6th in the Prem gets you more money than winning in Germany...you still have all those other clubs above you in your own league.

Spurs are the 12th richest club in world football. Sounds great. But you've got 5 others in the same league as you above you in the list that can and do spend more on player transfers and wages.

Dont see that as too much a problem, you have acquired players well enough over the last few years - sometimes shopping for what seems are the best is not always the best way to shop

With how many scouts and statisticians clubs now have there is enough players in leagues you can pick up who will become a top player with the right coaching for it not to be a problem if you are not shopping in the Pogba/Grizeman area ..

Having the seating in Chelsea blue adds a touch of class.

Must be comforting for the plastic fans that flip flop between the two clubs.

The top 6 prioritise the league above all other competitions. You seem to suggest that a manager's performance should be judged in competitions that are only a secondary priority. So are you suggesting that LVG and Pellegrini performed better last season Ranieri, Wenger and Poch because with all their huge financial resources they managed to win a domestic cup in competitions that most teams field weakened sides? They were both sacked at the end of the season IIRC? I don't remember too many fans suggesting that they should stay on because they performed so well...

But the problem comes if you then finish 5th+ but win say the FA cup you might get away with it for a season, but then you'll get the 'need to play CL football' stuff that gets thrown up. You then end up selling your better/best players and the cycle starts all over again.

The only advantage right now is that with the stadium a season and a half away and the mood in the camp and the quality of the manager I don't think any player wants to leave. After that first season in the new stadium then all bets would be off.

In the early stages yes, but getting into the latter stages they don't bar a player or two.

Winning a trophy should take precedent for all teams over a top 4 finish. I guess that's the desperation to play in the "elite" competition that I'd always say plays second fiddle to winning the domestic league. Coming 2-3-4 gets forgotten about quite easily.

The lean years catch up on managers and questions start being asked of them if they don't deliver silverware. LVG was on his way out before the FA cup final kicked off. At a guess I would say your man Poch if he doesn't deliver a trophy in the next 3 years will be on his way out.

Not at all..not even 1 bit , I simply said if Posch is out performing all the others should he not be top of the league and winning cups
then I stated personally as a fan I would get a lot more enjoyment on going to a final and winning it than coming 2nd 3rd or 4th..

Yeh cant argue with that-
I was simply stating if you miss a season its no biggy financially now to the prem clubs with all the tv money around...and me personally would get more satisfaction going to a final and winning than finishing 2nd 3rd or 4th - yes its better to probably do that in reality im just saying I would have a lot more enjoyable memories from winning the final and having a day or wknd out for it...

Completely agree as a fan, and I think that players when they finish their career want to look at winners medals (of whatever kind) but, as a club the only way to keep the players (and then hopefully win something) you currently need to be in the top 4 more often than not.

As you say...the money is pretty immaterial now for the odd season. But you'll know, if Liverpool finish outside the top 4 but win the Carling cup (or whatever it's called) it won't be enough to stop the Spanish vultures descending on Coutinho.

I am not sure even that is enough for someone they really want.
