Good decision all round. Good for him, he rightly deserves to be in the first team and Stoke will give him that and good for us, a return of £13m on the £15m shelled out.

Bit surprised Stoke were the only ones bidding at that price, after the Euros. Still, good for him and for us.

Good luck to him. A better player than most give him credit for.

I don't think a year ago any of us could see anyone paying 13m for him. Just shows what the right manager can do with players.

With Smith going for 6mill thats about 45m in, 65m spend?
Benteke still to go 30m?
Plus I wluld imagine a few others

Mario
Lucas
Wisdom
Markovic?
llori
Alberto

Another potential 25/30m on sales

Zero net spend on the cards with ticket price increases hhhmmm surprised this has so far gone unnoticed

I actually wrote about it last week smile. We are a billion pound club still shopping at Aldi. Don't forget the lucrative TV deals kicking in too along with the new club sponsorship deals plus the positive transfer surplus/ticket price increases are all being used by FSG to fund the stadium expansion! Henry isn't a billionaire for no reason! The harsh reality is, is that LFC is no longer a family club for the supporters - that died a long time ago - it is a billion pound goldmine, which is made to be run efficiently to maximise profits. But at the same time it is worth remembering when the other capitalist duo were in charge and ran up a huge debt against the club that nearly put us into extinction. Henry came in and removed the debt burden; he has turned things around and is running the club lean and efficiently via his "buy young, buy cheap, buy potential that can sold for a profit" model. Klopp rather like Wenger, aren't really football managers any more; they are coaches that have become accidental fund managers.

FFS yourself. Virtually no-one on here rated him under BR and wondered why the hell we had him. That didn't make him a bad player but he wasn't performing under BR.

Interesting. Clearly Klopp wasn't allowed to leave him in Alcatraz after all. wink

Nonsense. Played very well at times under Rodgers, fitness permitting. But the rhetoric is that Klopp is the new messiah so we'll push that agenda.

As for our transfer policy, I wonder what FSG's net spend is since they bought the club? I think we were asking the same questions last summer.

Allen was immense in that win over City, but he also had some pretty poor games under BR. There is no doubt he's improved under Klopp, especially with consistency in his performances.

But there's also no doubt that a number of people had completely written him off, whilst the rest of us said he just needed a good run of games to get back up to speed.

I'm not quite sure that's exactly the case.

For a start, if we were to splash the cash, who would we buy?! We were once linked with Higuain, no chance would we have paid £80m for him! We lost out to Arsenal for Sanchez and a Chinese club for Teixeira.

There's no point in just spending the money purely because we have it. Klopp has clearly identified positions where he wanted to bring players in and bought the players he wanted. Now he's removing the dead wood because the squad is too large. If that results in net spend being negative then so be it.

Obviously it would have been great if ticket prices had come down as a result of the TV deal - but then I thought the fans should have continued to protest after LFC only froze the prices.

Clearly it is not about spending big money for the sake of it; however my point was more that Klopp is clearly limited by the so called 'FSG model' and spending what we have and developing players with potential to become better that can be sold for more or at least retain value because they are young. This is used purely to drive the profitability of the club rather in the same way as raising ticket prices has done.

At present we are limited by lack of European football rather than lack of backing from the owners.

Its not nonsense when the evidence is here in black and white. I have no time for moaning about FSG. Maybe you're also one of those who doesn't rate Klopp as a manager? In which case we can agree to disagree and wait and see what happens cos frankly I have no time for moaning minnies who think they know more about football than the people employed to do the bloody job.

There is nothing wrong with FSG limiting us (I respect a business model) and I certainly don't think we are shopping at Aldi either... but we should still be able to have quite a positive spend this year, if we are anything under 20m and with the prices of tickets increasing its concerning to me. I dont believe we should become one of these clubs that buy players for 40m and give them 200-250k a week as potentially it could ruin us but I do believe we can spend more than we currently are. I do genuinely think we will have under 5 or 10m net spend this year when the club is netting over 100m from tv. Then factor in every game has now been made Cat 1, that means I pay £58 to watch West Brom as apposed to around £43/44 last year alarm bells are ringing.

I would say this is the bigger problem. I don't think Klopp has been limited in anyway - when he came to us he said he doesn't sign big money stars. Of all the players we were strongly linked with this summer I don't think there have been any that we've lost out on due to the price, except maybe Chilwell.

Sye, has every game been made a Cat 1? When I was looking at tickets last week I'm sure there were a number of seats for £35-45.
