In other news, Utd could still grab 4th place. Still, maybe that will mean they decide to keep Van Gaal...

Unfortunately not! I think City had to win the Champions League as well as us winning the Europa League for that to happen.

Actually, nope. You'd need City to win the Champions League as well for that.

I thought that only would happen if City won the CL and finished outside top four?!

If Utd get top 4 ahead of Citeh - Utd would be in 4th. If we win the EL - we go into the CL at the expense of the 4th spot. Or so I was led to believe anyway.

Any country can have a maximum of 5 teams in the Champions league - so that's the top 4 slots and Pool if you win the Europa. They only way we could have had 6 would have been if City got in as CL winners and then finished outside top 4 with you guys winning Europa. Only then would the last league spot be taken out to bring it back to 5. As it is we can only now get a max of 5, which is ok.
