It's good to see a manager put his foot down on players like that. Sakho must have been on something if he thought he'd get away with that kind of behaviour.

Indeed, also doing it with a fans favourite will also let everyone know if you step out of line there will be consequences....

Interesting read http://www.espn.co.uk/football/club/liverpool/364/...

"Entering the season with a zero -- or even negative -- net spending could be construed as a courageous move for a club that lags way behind its competitors, recently claimed it was worth a billion pounds and is also about to open a wonderful new stand and lay claim to record amounts of TV money."

If we enter the season with a negative net spend, I genuinely would be interested in hearing from Klopp what success looks like for this coming season.

Be quite interesting to see if we do, especially with ticket price increases for adults....

I am not against FSG at all, I just think if we bring in my eyes what is one of the best managers out there we need to let him spend and not have a zero or anything under 10m net spend if we have any hopes of breaking into the top 4.....I dont expect us to go net spending 100m but would have expected us to do 50m this year...

Anfield looking well, once they extend Annie Road, we are surely going to have to make the Kop bigger?

How do we know he's not bought the players he wants?

So just to be clear, are you both saying that the only way we'll be successful this season is if we have have a big net spend? WTF?! I don't even know where to start with that....

No not all I was just saying its a shock this year if we dont have a positive, but like Jammy says I do think they are 100% the players JK wanted....just wonder if that is because of limits or because 1005 they were who he wanted ...
I am just been a cynic ignore me, RT has rubbed off on me haha

I can be cynical as well but I feel fairly certain that Klopp isn't the type of bloke to keep quiet if he has any serious misgivings. Or hang around if he thinks is reputation is on the line due to a lack of support.

But I agree that the transfers so far aren't exactly the type that get the juices flowing.

ha ha yes its the RT effect biglaughwink because normally you speak more sense than that!

The things is we were always going to have a small net spend this window because there was going to be a big clear out of BR players (and older) that Klopp doesn't want. So we'd either be having to buy loads of players (not good) or really expensive players (not happening) in order to get a big net spend. Perhaps the club have put some limits on spending but that's probably not a bad thing and hopefully the players signed are Klopp's choices rather than an exercise in ensuring a positive net spend wink

I've never been in doubt over FSG. As far as I'm concerned for them winning something is secondary to increasing the value of the club.

I'm 100% certain that if anyone can, Klopp can compete with less. I'm a firm believer in Klopp, always have been, even when Mr Rodgers had the backing of many. I'd just like to hear Klopp's opinion on what he thinks can be achieved this season with the players he's bought in.

I'm just thankful that this time this year I'm not discussing Benteke and questioning why we brought in a player like him that clearly did not suit our style of play.

At the end of last season we would have said we needed a LB, CB, CM.
We got Grujic, Matip, Wijnaldum and Mane.
Does it matter if they all aren't £40m players on £150k a week contracts if Klopp is happy with them?
Just so has it that we sold Ibe, Allen and Smith and got £34m in transfer fees.

A LB in now for £15m and we'd have covered the positions like we said we wanted.

I don't know if Benteke will go so can't see another striker coming in.

I agree looks fantastic, growing up in Tuebrook it's great to see this, as for players the biggest worry is left back, really should get top 4 and a cup this year with no Europe.

I might be the only one but I think it looks pretty horrible. I know its necessary and all, and was much needed. But...ugly. Mind you, stadiums with odd stands rarely look good to be fair.

At the end of last season I'd wanted to see brought in

a goal keeper to at least compete with Mignolet
a centre back to replace Skrtel and one to replace Kolo
a left back
an explosive central midfielder to play alongside Cann
a wide player with pace
perhaps a striker though I understand if we give Ings a chance

I think we're a left back and centre midfielder short and top heavy in attacking midfield. Maybe we'll still get a left back this window or in January.

My thoughts are that Klopp will upgrade on one of Henderson and Milner next season and possibly bring in another striker depending how Sturridge, Origi and Ings do.

These things take time but what's clear so far is that starting the new season we can have as many as 6 new players starting a game.

I'm really not that bothered about net spend this season. In my opinion we have a stronger team in key positions and most crucially we have competition in most positions. Left back being the exception.

My reasons

This is summer 1, just because he came in last year this is in reality his first summer and his first season proper. Klopp was never going to build his dream team in one summer, I think he's likely building a team and a bit of a squad this year to mould into his shape and style - many are young and lots of potential. When he has the basic structure and confident in that I think he'll then strengthen with the so called "marque" signings or big hitters. It's not football manager where you can buy everyone.

Europe. Also remember we don't have Europe so there may be some players he'd like but can't justify due to lack of playing time and games.
There's also the added factor of us not having Europe means the big players won't come to Liverpool, so when we have it we'll attract players easier AND be able to play them.

Lots of the players leaving are leaving because they aren't big names/ past it/ won't make it/ won't get game time without Europe/ Klopps clear out. So we were always going to lose more than we bought in without Europe - we're trimming down our squad numbers!

Klopp may not want big personalities on big wages coming in to his project at such an early stage and potentially interrupting his plan of gelling the team together and doing the hard yards. When the team is stronger as a unit and collective then he'll have confidence to add that big star. Assuming these lads don't develop.

So screw spend this year, as long as Klopps got what he wants and isn't being held back by the budget then let's see how it unfolds!

In caveat - please can we have a left back! Maybe an old soldier in defensive midfield to school Cann to the next level and also offer that bit of guile and experience when needed. Maybe a striker too if I'm greedy!

Mutiny on Anfield? Nope smile

I'm happy with our signings but I will be annoyed if we don't bring in a left back this window after adding even more attacking midfielders. Klopp cannot be unaware Moreno's shortcomings given his mistakes last season.

Perhaps Klopp has seen enough to decide that he can teach/coach Morenos defensive play to a standard he/we would be happy with? The lad has a great engine & work ethic, I think he will improve significantly under this new management team.
