John W Henry says fan protests against ticket prices are causing the club to reassess plans to further redevelop Anfield. #LFC

Ridiculous argument from them..they lost out on about 2m

The problem is they are not selling out the corporates in the main stand..I understand there was probably near 2k empty for Hull on Sat
Surprise surprise. Indeed it is a ridiculous argument but then what does anyone expect from people like this.

I sit opposite the new main stand, there are loads of empty seats there.

I'd not realised that increasing ticket prices was how the funding of an expansion took place. I'm sure the honorable Mr Henry would lower all the prices once it had been paid for. Or perhaps even fund the expansion from the increased revenue from the new main stand once that revenue has paid off what it cost.

And let's not talk about the new tv money.....

If all those new corporate seats had been regular seats and pricing, they'd have sold out. Their marketing advisors appear to have got things rather wrong with what they could screw people for.

I dare say ultimately they will sell them in time, or rather quicker if the price is made a bit more within reach of ordinary people.

Or we win the league - that will fill them in no time at all...

Such is top level football. Ugh.

So of the 250m costs for stand..half paid for by council..4-6m naming rights per year and God knows how much on Corp..so estimate paid off I'm 5-6 years... but ticket prices are an issue when earning an extra 90m or so a year from tv..crazy statement
In some ways it is not that stupid though. The TV is in many ways completely irrelevant for their decision about expanding the number of seats. If they planned on their money being paid back in 5 years at ticket price x, and they have to change x-5 because of the protest it means it might take 8 years to pay back instead. Then it perhaps becomes better to invest in another project instead.

Yes, they are making a lot more off the TV money, but it is a seperate thing as a business decision. If you got a really good price on a home improvement you would go for it. Say the same company then offered you a poor price on doing the driveway you wouldn't say that you'll go for it because you saved a lot of money on the other job. In the same way the investment in the stand will based against other investments they could make, not on the overall profit from Liverpool FC.

I sort of agree.

However, the general admission tickets ALWAYS sell out and are incredibly hard to get hold of for a lot of games. The Anny Rd extension I believe would be all gen. admission, so I think they'd sell out that stand still.

Simple fact is Annie road would be just gen admission.
That's obviously not what they want and the fact they can't charge £80+ for a ticket (basically) Corp means they are not interested in getting more fans who sing in the ground,to help the team and Klopp...it's a shocking decision if it stands, the naming rights of that stand would pay if off in a few years

If we are being looked at buy other investors now might be a time before the fans turn ..

Ps got a ticket for UTD £9 .
On the gods in the corner I'll get some pics for you

It wouldn't surprise me if this was a sort of reverse psychology move. I mean, more seats = more revenue. And that is the bottom line! By putting out such a statement in my view is merely trying to get fans and supporter groups talking and I am sure the general concensus will be that most people will probably want to increase the Anfield Road end. After which they will agree to it and put ticket prices up anyway minus the previous backlash.

I was never particularly anti Rogers, but watching him on sky sports, claiming Celtic would be a top 4-6 team in the premier league is just hilarious.

Rodgers is a deluded muppet.
Thing is he will think he is an amazing manager if he wins things up in Scotland despite it being piss poor for competition.

He didn't say they'd finish top 6 in their current state did he? He said that given access to the prem and tv cash, and given their stadium, fanbase and history, they'd be top 6.

But since when have facts got in the way of rhetoric?

Pretty sure he said they'd be top 6 as is, and top 4 with the money.

So who's top six now? City, Arsenal, Utd, us, Chelsea and Spurs? I don't watch much Scottish footie, but that Dembele is in a purple patch and I don't think they'd be far off that. I'd say they're in better form than Utd and Chelsea at the moment.

Don't think they'd get top four though, even with some cash.

So Celtic are unlikely to ever be allowed into the English Prem because they're a threat, and an equal to, our top 4 or top 6 clubs NOW - even without the resources that come from playing in the Prem. So imagine how big and powerful they would be WITH the finances that come from being in the Prem?

That's how I read what he says.

He is a mentalist. How deluded can 1 man really be? He has that glazed evangelical look in his eye too. Mental.
