Joint top is great...am I a fool for thinking we have a chance this year?
Let's not lose the run of ourselves just yet. We've played less than a quarter of the season and while things are looking a lot better than they were in recent seasons we still have a very porous defence, two dodgy keepers and our best striker couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo. Let's see where we are in the new year.

Would Gerrard returning have a similar impact to signing Gary McCallister? Food for thought...
I doubt it.

I just can't see how he'd fit into the Klopp system. Plus, who is he going to replace? You'd only expect him to come on as a sub and from what I've heard he's not played all that well this season out in LA.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Gerrard back with us if we have a title chance (which I don't think we do yet), but I can't see Klopp going for it just for nostalgias sake.

Yes and very wise words.

Why? Bring him back so he gets his LFC Prem medal? That will never ever happen. This is big business we're talking about, with no place for sentiment. He would offer us little on the pitch (more off it, I would suspect), there is no-one in the team he would replace, and it would be disrespectful to those players in the team now. This is THEIR time; Gerrard's (as a player at least) is in the past. With absolutely no disrespect to him intended.

Anyway, will we win the Prem this season? I'm with Kaj on that one. No. We're looking like we could challenge for top 4 and that will certainly be a big improvement.

Next 2 windows for me

- a striker that is of the quality we need that suits our system
- at least one full back
- a proven central midfielder to compete/replace one of Can or Henderson
- maybe a keeper or bringing back Ward

And even then I think we will spend very little. We'll get 25 million for Sturridge, 30 million for whichever midfielder we upgrade on, another 20 million for Sakho. We'll improve our matchday squad for not a lot of new money.

Klopp has done exceptionally well with what he has at his disposal, even after 9 games. Bar the Suarez season, for the best part of a decade our league season has been usually over by now.

You're in dreamland if you think we'll actually bring in those players RT, consisting two of those positions we brought in during the summer.

I was in dreamland when I thought we could get Klopp. smile

We'll buy a striker definitely i think. Sturridge is finished here and he'll force a move if he continues to be a bit part player. It'll be the best for everyone concerned imo.

The keeper might be too early to tell but I doubt Mignolet will stay as a permanent second choice.

We don't have any real full back cover on the right and we have Moreno on the left. I think we will buy a full back.

So there's 3 players right there.

My personal thoughts are he'll upgrade on one of Can or Henderson. Either by bringing in more competition or replacing one of them.

I'm not sure why that's dreamland. I'm pretty certain there will be at least 3 players here over the next 2 windows

I don't think we'll buy anyone in Jan, purely because the players Klopp is reportedly keen on won't be available.

I also don't think Migs will move on until at least the summer. He's international position isn't in jeopardy and I doubt he'll get many better offers.

You could increase a stadium end with that kind of money! And possibly still challenge for Top 4.

Joking aside, I think our one real priority this January has to be a genuine commander of a goalkeeper. I might be in the minority here but I actually think our defence is very decent; Matip and Lovren have hardly put a foot wrong and have both been ably supported by Clyne and Milner. The one very worrying weak spot is the goalkeeper and both Mings and Karius seem to transfer their nervousness to the defence with their indecisiveness and flapping.

I just personally can't see Klopp really go out and purchase another one having already brought in Karius. Karius may well go on to be a very good keeper but he is still some years off it in my view.

There's no chance Klopp is going to turn his back on Karius after 6 or even 12 months. Besides, who else is there?

True. There is however the option of selling and replacing Mignolet.

True - but Utd have been poor all night. I feel they put in a much better performance against us.

This United team is really, really poor. Neville was right on Monday when he said this was will take Mourinho 2 or 3 windows to fix. 4-0 down - just shows what an early goal can do to a team that sets up to defend.

Fair enough. But by the summer I think we'll have a new striker and at least a back up keeper other than Mignolet.

I don't think it's dreamland to think we'll have 4 new players that strengthen what we have.

I think that Sturridge, Mignolet, Moreno and Sakho will be gone. As will Lucas.

Just watching Utd getting thrashed. Think we showed them too much respect on Monday. They're not all that at all.
