Klopp out!
Season defining indeed.
I was joking in a way when I said it before the match, but it it looks like this could be our "bad" spell coming up, with quite a few of our most important players injured and a part of the season we could have quite a few games (League Cup, League and soon to be FA Cup). If we want to win the league it's games like today that we would need to win (or even draw). I guess it shows that probably some of us got carried away with expectations and hoped for what is probably too much. It's certainly not that this game means it's over in itself, just that it shows the old weaknesses are still very close to the surface.Season defining indeed.
I didn't see the game today, but certainly Karius doesn't seem to be the right option. He has the weaknesses of Mignolet, but seems to lack the strength of being a good shot stopper that Mings has. I don't think I'd carry on with him as first choice to be honest. However RT saying that Klopp obviously made a mistake and questioning why he's not replaced - it's pretty simple, he's never actually had a transfer window to replace him in even if he wanted to do so now! So it's somewhat madness to complain he's not already gone!
Oh well, that was disappointing but hardly the end of the world or our season. We have been playing well, nice attacking football but, and we were all aware of our lack of squad depth should anything happen our best, most creative player. That is now.
The game itself, when momentum swings like that it is very very hard to stop it and that's all it was. It doesn't make us terrible all of a sudden just maybe open our eyes a little to the reality. Most disappointing for me was Can in the second half, arguing moaning giving out, looking like he was going to get sent off. He should know better, reminded me of City yesterday, both teams needing a calm head to settle things down.
Onwards.....

We were 1-3 up and didn't / couldn't shut up shop that is why we lost today. Hopefully we will now practice this we can't attack for 90 minutes every game (which is what we have done so far)
If Lucas is on at CB, you can't bring him on to shut up shop and there didn't seem to be many options on the bench. That bench showed it's still very much a work in progress. Could be two windows off a full squad (assuming we don't lose any players).Klopp would rather lose than play Sakho, so another centre back would seem inevitable for January's window.

Anyway, last time i saw a red trident it was on Man U's badge.
I made that point when he changed his login name.If we look at the season as a whole, it's a pretty big step in the right direction, despite today's cock up.
I also recall wanting Klopp whilst some others on here were busy clinging on to Mr Rodgers being the second coming if Shankley..
Karius is a very poor keeper. We also won't compete for anything with Origi as our only available out and out striker. These are 2 weaknesses that need to be addressed in January if we are going to stop from losing more and more ground.
Klopp isn't an idiot. if not January then the summer will see the end of automatic first choice Karius. My fear is that if he waits until the summer then we will be fortune to still be anywhere near top 4. He cost under 5 million, I have no idea why anyone thought he'd be anywhere near good enough. We've took a punt on him, we've seen all too obviously his shortcomings, the sooner we get a decent keeper the better as far as I'm concerned.
November 6th.

What we have is a genuine world class manager instead of a has been or never been.
Mane Matip and Karius are the only personel changes from what was before and look at the difference.

I took positives from today. Our keeper had a decent game.
We're getting better at the back and we're top of the league. We'll probably buy another centre back once we ship out Sakho.
Matip has been excellent, Clyne has been solid and for the occasional defensive mistake like today, Milner I wouldn't swap for any other left back.

Coutinho cost 8.5 million.
It's not about how much they cost. Klopp saw something in Klarius he thought was worth the risk to date he hasn't shown it, But lets not get back to second guessing every decision the manager makes, It's been one bad day in a pretty good season so far.
We all want the "perfect team" but we have what we have, lets get behind them and support them.
I'm sure someone once said something along the lines of "If you can't support us when we lose or draw , don't support us when we win"

I do feel Karius is not going to be the future for us from what he has shown so far, and I think if I was Klopp I would play Mignolet instead of him from what I have seen so far. But we still most likely need a replacement, and who will we actually get who would be better? The obvious better keepers (in the PL) are at teams which are likely to do better than us long term/ do as well as us. The only person not in that situation is DDG, but he is more likely to end up at Real Madrid or similar compared to us.Klopp isn't an idiot. if not January then the summer will see the end of automatic first choice Karius. Personally, I think Klopp is by far the most interesting manager in the PL. he shows real class.
His main managerial mistake as far as I'm concerned is selling Joe Allen. He really started playing consistently well and was changing matches for you.
Mints is a better goalie though, for sure. All the great Keepers I can think of had shaky starts but had managers that allowed them to develop.

RT why do you no longer complain about Milner as you constantly did before the season started ?? Why have you not complained about Karius whilst we have been winning?? You cannot keep using hindsight constantly after we have a (rare) bad result!!!!!! Klopp is a lot wiser than you and me but sadly he cannot predict how every single player will turn out every game.... Get real man we are in a far better place than anyone predicted back in August, Don't be a fair weather 'hindsight' supporter anyone can do that.
To be fair to RT (I remember as I also said the same) we did not say Milner would likely do a bad job where he is now, but that we felt it would be better to have a proper LB to play there to let Milner play in the midfield like he did before - where he provided a lot of assists last season. We said he might make a few mistakes since it would be a position he doesn't normally play in, but to be fair he has done very very well there, even more so considering it's not his first choice position. It certainly could be a question to ask now when we have a weaker midfield due to injuries if it would have been better to have someone else there and Milner could step into midfield now instead. Also quite a few people have questioned Karius so far this season, but said it was ok to him to learn if he didn't cost us many points/ showed signs of improving. From what I heard of the game today he did cost us points and still hasn't shown signs of improving.
Of course Milner can do a job at left back. But it's not his natural position and he'll make the odd mistake like he did today in giving away an unnecessary penalty. Not taking any away from him whatsoever but I still think he looks better than he is because of how poor our alternative is in Moreno.
I'd prefer to see Milner in midfield, I think the assists he offers and the experience he brings in helping control a game would be more valuable from there. But these are tweaks.
Maybe Karius and Origi will get better and become genuine first team players in a team competing for honours. I doubt it will be anytime soon though and definitely not this season.
Klopp's interview was interesting. Looking forward to seeing how he responds to today.

We stuff a game up in the last 20 minutes - a game coming off nearly the longest unbeaten premier league run stretching back 20 odd years, were 3rd in the table, 4 points off top and nearer 1st than 6th and a game with no Matip and no Coutinho - and suddenly we should be making wholesale changes, moving Milner around, Origi is st and Karius is judged by his cost?

Tell you what - when the team sheet pops up on Saturday morning, tell us BEFORE the game who's going to play badly instead of this post game bks.
