Enough of the Chris Evans bhing (for now wink) how about a thread about the show itself?

The latest issue of Top Gear magazine has a preview, some of which sounds quite interesting:

Best city commuter car (including the Cenotaph incident)
Orient Express route race in luxury cars (bringing along Michelin chefs for the food…hmmm)
Track tests: Button in the 675LT, Sabine in the R8 V10
Moroccan Altas mountain rave in the Aerial Atom V8
RR Dawn vs. older alternatives
Restoring an MGB with modern mechanicals
Recreating the Geneva Motor Show E-Type race in an F-Type
Chris Harris track tests the AM Vulcan
SUV’s to the highest pub in Africa with pop stars (hmmmm)
Focus RS hooning
Viper ACR vs. Corvette ZO6 at Top Gun centre
Mustangs in Scotland
Harris: M2 vs RS3

Cautiously optimistic!

Whatever you think of Clarkson, Hammond, May, Evans, Harris, Schmitz, LeBlanc or anyone else:

This is a car show, with some pretty interesting cars on it. As a forum of petrolheads, we should (and likely will) all be watching at least the first episode.

So, I for one will be reserving judgement on how good it is once I've seen it, then deciding if it's better/worse than the old one and if Evans is a genius/knob for taking it on.

It's too scripted, the cocking about is too childish, too many nob jokes, that bird behind Evans is well buff, SIARPC was crap and I'd never heard of him, why can't they tell us important stuff like the relative boot sizes of a Mondeo and a Vectra instead of boring stuff like drifting an Aventador round the track, why are they afraid to put an Ultima round the track, did they have to blow up that *insert sh*te 70s family saloon*, there are so few good examples left nowadays.

Sorry, am I too early for that yet...

I'm keeping an open mind and giving it plenty of time to find it's feet. There's not a great deal for the petrolhead on the BBC so anything thats not "Homes under the antique bake off" is welcome

How many TG threads do we need?

I have an open mind.

Evans is a bit marmite.... so expect polarised reviews.

Sounds good to me, I tended to watch for the cars more and James May, the others could be a bit tiresome.

My dad who, whilst a petrolhead, really didn't/doesn't like Clarkson which meant he never watched the previous Top Gear, messaged me asking when the new series starts last week as he wants to watch it. I asked him if it was because of Evans (he's a big Radio 2 listener) and he said it was. Quite interesting I thought.

I've just had email confirmation of two tickets for them filming this next week - been applying every year but at last I have got some! Ok I originally signed up as a Clarkson fan but still pretty happy at this

Anyone else?

I most certainly will be.

First episode was being filmed today apparently, wonder if any PHers were there?

Yeah, still at Dunsfold aerodrome in Surrey, which is handily only half an hour from me smile

And on their first big all-new season-opening show, they have....

He's on his way towards 10m listeners on his breakfast show, so I don't think opinion on PH tells the whole story.

I would guess that that's pretty much a captive audience,, don't think they tune in to listen to Chris Evans per se.

^^ Pretty sure the numbers don't go down when Sara Cox is doing the show.
