Sorry but I can no longer support the Welsh football team in this tournament.

As an Englishman I found the Wales team celebrations - captured on video - at our loss to Iceland to be really quite offensive.

I will now be hoping Belgium put them out whereas prior to seeing that video I would have backed the Welsh.
We deserved it and more. The entire establishment from Woy, the players, all the way up to the FA should be ashamed of themselves, and if that means the Welsh deservedly laughing at us - I'm all for it.

I can see your point. But can you imagine the texts Ramsey has been getting from Wiltshire since we lost in Lens?

Anyway, if you want us to win then great. If you don't, that's cool too. We won't be lacking in support at the game.

I want Wales to get as far as they can now ... they know how to play against Belgium and hopefully aren't overawed.
Hoping to hear a rousing rendition of Men of Harlech from the supporters - a la Zulu film - should put the wind up 'em biggrin

That video just showed the mentality of that nation & their hatred towards the English.
Some of them players should remember where they play their football as I am sure the Welsh leagues can't offer them 20/30k per week!
Banter lads, just banter wink

In seriousness, I did find it bad, I found it worse that it was actually leaked though - damaged a lot of reputations that frown
Ah come on it was funny.

To be fair it wasn't a public place. None of the player had a television camera in their face, none were holding hands with an 8 year old. Were they representing their country? Well, yes, I guess, as that's exactly what happened in the pubs in Wales.

And England were s**t. Didn't deserve to go further, didn't get unlucky, didn't go out to a highly rated team, didn't show grit, determination, courage, pride, tenacity, skill, brought it on themselves really.

Didn't even show respect to Iceland after the defeat.

You're offended by this? That's pretty lame.
Lame?

Why the juddering fk would I now support a team of players who were celebrating my teams demise like it was new years eve 1999? What kind of a masochist supports their enemy?

fk em! I Hope Tottenham's C team stuff 'em 9-0 punch

I don't think it was offensive at all, England set themselves up for such a reaction. Enjoying the misfortune of others is one of the joys of being a football fan, if Scotland were beaten by Lichtenstein then which England fan wouldn't enjoy the moment? It just so happens that the boot is on the other foot this time so we have to take the humiliation.

Scotland has a history of war with the English, the Welsh are almost English themselves - albeit the original English. I understand a snigger but that was disrespectful and we wouldn't have done it to them whereas we would have laughed at the Scots.

And you don't think that is disrespectful?

The Welsh are no more English than the Scots. That is to say, there has been so much interbreeding between the UK nations over hundreds of years to make genetics a complete non-factor, we're all one people genetically speaking.

You also appear to know nothing about Welsh history, I suggest you have a little read about Owain Glyndwr.

In any case, this is all getting rather silly and tribal.

I can well understand not wishing to support Wales when you have seen the players display schadenfreude like that (if it is genuine) however, to actually be offended by it? That's just taking it a bit too personally.

Fingers crossed we put up a decent show on Friday.

You are correct, the English team wouldn't have reacted like that.

Not from respect though. From total lack of passion. They would probably on their iPads looking at high end watches and cars and extreme tat for their houses, or were busy tag teaming some bint.

It's interesting how when this thread started England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Eire were all in the tournament and the banter was good. I think the English people on the thread were genuinely pleased to see all four nations doing well as were those from other nations. I word it like that because obviously the majority of posters on Pistonheads are from England. It's a sad reflection on some people that they are so uptight that they have no concept of friendly banter and given the opportunity simply want to be insulting and unpleasant. It's ironic that those same people would probably say that supporters at a rugby game all rub along side by side. Well guess what, it's just as easy to have banter with football people too, one just needs to try it some time.
A good point, well made. I'll be cheering wales on now england are out, just dont see the hatred thing myself but hey ho. The scottish seem worse though, i'm happy for them to be independant, infact if we could have Holland or Germany instead of them that would be great....
A good point by Rich indeed, you agree, then go and spoil it with your sentements about the Scots!

We can take banter no bother (we have learned to accept we are ste), as some other Scots have posted (and it goes a long long way back) It's the media / pundits having England win everything before they enter that comes across as arrogant. Sets them up for the fall and subsequent jibes. But it is just banter!!

Some of my very closest mates are English (and fine fellows they are too) and I would dare to say they agree. It's that aspect which makes most take the piss (the Scots are most definately not alone). Strange how you choose to pick the Scots out for selective comments, maybe we are just more effective at it!
Not really Mcmatey....I'd already had a jab at the welsh so I thought i'd spread a little love by dragging the scots in too. I think the irish fans have been suberb so i thought i'd leave them out. I'd have a go at scotlands dire euro 16 campaign but theres a problem.....hehe

fk the England team, players ,managers, trainers, in fact the whole English FA. They are a load of over paid arse licking tossers. They deserve fk all.
Lazy conceited spoilt brats and have been for the last 20 odd years if not longer.

Even those ex England players were outraged on the pundit panel's. Well guess what? They were ste as well. They have a dam nerve to critisize the st English team when they were st themselves.

Someone on here is outraged at Wales enjoying England's defeat. So what. Every pro sport player wants thier rivals to lose. And are happy to see it.
No surprises there.

Gazza. Poor sod.

Education!!!

Some posts ago Twag the wonderfull put up a strong 4 or 5 point list on how things should be and was slagged off.

I don't think he was far wrong to be honest.

This last episode of English player/ manager twatery should be held to account with a public enquirey.

Correct me if I am wrong here but didn't England spank the life out of Wales during the group stage? You can't go much further relying on one player to "bale" you out every single match & he will come up against much better opposition like he did against England & apart from his fluke goal (Hart completely at fault) he will struggle against Belgium I feel.
Ok we are out & Wales are still in but that one game alone showed just how poor Wales are compared to England & how far away they are from winning a major competition. Don't worry though lads, you have got further than England which seems to be their only ambition in life so give yourselves a pat on the back for that. biggrin
