Correct me if I am wrong here but didn't England spank the life out of Wales during the group stage? You can't go much further relying on one player to "bale" you out every single match & he will come up against much better opposition like he did against England & apart from his fluke goal (Hart completely at fault) he will struggle against Belgium I feel.
Ok we are out & Wales are still in but that one game alone showed just how poor Wales are compared to England & how far away they are from winning a major competition. Don't worry though lads, you have got further than England which seems to be their only ambition in life so give yourselves a pat on the back for that. biggrin
I agree. But the fact that Wales is not a strong team actually works for them,, from a formation point of view ( they can't and will not mess it around too much ) and specially a mental point to ( they know they are the underdogs so not much pressure ). So 1/4's is another match and going in to it they are underdogs and if they go out , its a pat on the back and a open top bus waiting in Wales, well you know what I mean. With England, its heat on,,,,, and shouldn't be, too much choice so no settled team / set up. Lets face it , across the whole squad there is not a lot in it ability wise and this caused Roy the main headache with a final 11. So the in depth strong squad was really one of the undoings.

Jmo...

Yep I agree... As much as I love my country I do however agree with what everyone is saying. England couldn't deal with the pressure & far to many "ego's" will never help with the situation along with a clueless manager! Sometimes unity is all you need as you rightly say & I think this is why lower ranked teams are doing so well in this competition & sticking two fingers up to the rest of the world! Bigger nations doesn't necessarily give you the right to win games.... thumbup

I'm not sure i'd call a last minute winner as a spanking. Wales were poor in that game, our mentality was wrong, we were playing for a point so when we went a goal up we just sat on it. Doesn't mean we are a weak team, look how we put Russia away, one of the best performances of any team so far. I don't think I've ever seen such a convincing performance from an English team in finals, especially as it was an all on the line high pressure game.

I think Bale will monster Belgium. They can't defend and there will be loads of space for him. They are seriously over rated.

Belgium are a good team, buddy. I stated that they were a very good team when I see them get beat 2 - 0 by Italy. Scoreline never tells the true story sometimes. Bale will definitely have to rise for this one in a pure footballing sense, not just free kicks. Ramsey and Bale are going to have to play their A game.

Be very interesting this weekend. I hope France puts Iceland where they should be because they are very average. Low % playing teams need to be put where they should be and I bet they will be sent packing by France come Sunday. England didn't do it and deserved to be sent packing after that shambolic display.

We didn't spank Wales, and only won with a last min goal. We created lots of pressure but our final third quality was shocking.

Yes, because you get a point for possession every 10 minutes.

Right, Portugal vs Poland.

I hope the majority of people here will be backing Poland tonight, not only because it's fking Portugal but also in a display of solidarity given recent events.

I'll be backing Poland in memory of my granddad Wladislaw, one time infantryman, then a tank commander: fought the Russians as they invaded Poland in 1939, escaped via Spain to England, then landed at D-Day and fought his way into Germany.
A man who could never go home again as he was seen as a traitor by the Communist Government and who started a new life in England, and a successful one at that.

Sadly he died before I met him, and I hope wherever he is he is looking down and chugging back the cherry vodka he used to drink and cheering them on.

I'm not convinced they are. Player for player, on paper they are amazing but they kind of remind me of Spain in the 90's, you just know they'll blow it. For me, they aren't a team, the manager is tactically poor, the players are very hit and miss (especially Hazard), the full backs are center backs playing out of position. Hazard doesn't seem to play with enough intensity, he slows the game down too much.

Their football hasn't been great so far, got taught a lesson by Italy, did a job on Ireland (who were really poor) and scraped passed Sweden. Hungary played into their hands with extremely open football although they did create plenty of chances against Belgium.

I'm not saying we'll beat them, but we've got a chance. They won't win the tournament.

Poland for me as well - got some Zywiec lager ready to go.

Suspect might be a bit of a bore game though, unless Poles can score early.
