Presumably would forfeit something if he handed in a transfer request.

Rather he did if he want's out.

Saying he doesn't want to play and then sulking off to France is the behaviour of a tosser.
In which case it's purely about money? Surely he's in breach of contract if he refuses to play and will forfeit his wages?
He's not refusing to play; apparently he doesn't "want" to play. If he's selected & told to go on the pitch he'll "play" (see against cittee), hence not in breach (AIUI).

Yes, it probably is about money. That & being a tt.

Maybe do a deal for him at a vastly inflated price, and just before he leaves (make sure all is signed though) let him have a one on one training session with Vinnie Jones.

Just watched it. Bilic hardly gives the impression of someone happy in his work either.

Big mistake in going public with this IMO. Can't put that genie back in the bottle.

Cash in a get players who want to play. Sure you won't be short of suitors.

He had no choice than to go public. This has been growing and growing for months, and the club or Bilic owe him nothing. It's not up to Bilic to build any bridges or protect someone who he has praised to the hilt recently when it was obvious he knew already Payet was a problem.

This was his history before he signed.....

"Marseille didn't want to sell the player and felt their hand was forced by Payet and his representatives. The French club even went to the length of issuing a statement claiming they had an agreement with Payet to discuss a new contract in mid July, but were priced out of a deal when his agent met with Marseille president Vincent Labrune on Monday.

They are furious that West Ham held talks with their player, offering Payet wages of £21.4m over six years according to their statement, and refused to match these 'reckless demands."

He attempted to get a move from St Etienne to Paris Saint-Germain in January 2011 when Chelsea and Liverpool were also showing an interest.
Payet didn’t show up for training to try and engineer the transfer but only succeeded in getting himself dumped in the reserves.

He joined St Etienne in the first place after handing in a transfer request at Nantes when they were relegated in 2007, securing a £3m move and a four-year contract at his new club.
There have been questions over his discipline and attitude to training at times.
It was a reputation Payet earned as a kid during four turbulent years at Le Havre which led to his return to Reunion.

As recently as last December, Bielsa dropped him because of his lack of motivation in training....."

Its not the board, its not Bilic, its him.

Sounds like we've had the best of him then.

Shame, was quality to watch him last season.

Julian Dicks (The Terminator) perhaps....on the coaching staff I think.

Noble, Reid or Collins could do a decent job.

He's had his head turned presumably by a top-6 club.

Players have so much power, an exit this window now inevitable.

As you say, no chance. He's under contract to 2021 so he will be sold but to a club that WHUFC want to sell him to, i.e. in Europe not the Premiership.

Why sell him at all, presumably if he really does refuse to train or play we don't have to pay him? Seriously I would call his bluff.

Actually it wasn't that Rich - can't see that Arse would want him.
