Bit drastic - he was quality last year.
I agree, was just very surprised to hear a journalist speak in such strong terms.Wonder if he's a Hammer, if not it's even more surprising .
Much of the written media are so suspect that he probably is.

Their discussing it further on TS at the moment.

Actually we don't , player power rules ...ever since Bosnan.City are pretty much the the richest club in the world, so could do it with Ya Ya, but Payet knows we could use the 30 mil.
I'd love to see him get lardy at home, but in the real world I don't think we're in that position.
Why? You've got a stadium for basically nothing, the TV deal is increasing again. You can easily afford to stick him in with the kids until he gets his act together. He would do exactly what Yaya did...try and be stubborn for a few months then come crawling back.

You can literally end his career...the club in this instance actually do have the power.

I take it you don't have much experience of running a business or working to a budget laugh

We aren't in that position because we need the 30 million to strengthen the squad right now to avoid relegation, which is a distinct possiblity going by performances.
I'd be very surprised if they don't take the money .

How long do you think he'd sulk and down tools for if you told him that he wasn't going to be transferred and if he didn't start turning in performances that he'd probably never play a game again?

The most recent example is Yaya...sulked for what 2-3 months and is now back playing.

As for budgets...what was the increase in the TV deal this year?

My thoughts entirely. Can't see it happening tho, I reckon he will get what he wants rather than what he deserves.

Will Payet be paying back the £1m loyalty bonus he received back in September?

What would be the point in letting him rot? We lose 30 million quid and lay out 6 million a year in wages unless we can prove he's on strike ( when the reality is he's claiming a bad back).... and we still have the stench of his name associated with our club.
Whether he sulks and wants to come back, he won't be able to.He was idolised, and where as City had a squad where Toure wouldn't be missed, we haven't, which means the fans feel it more personally because he's royally screwed us.
I doubt many of us would have had a problem if he'd done it the right way.
As was said earlier, he even got a one million quid loyalty bonus in Septembef after the Euros, just to entice hisfat arse back to us, )6 months after we upped his wages from 4 million to 6 million a year.
Just get rid, take the money and move on.

Agree, sadly I can't see him playing for the Hammers again. Unless Bilic really wants to throw him to the lions. I am sure he would be soundly booed by the majority of the crowd. May be funny to make him go on for the last 10 mins of a game to see the reaction! laugh

Doubt that there's as much cash (or potential cash) tied up in him though.

They have effectively lost the player for 2 years, whilst paying his wages, yet not received any transfer fee to replace him.

An he's still young enough to resume his career once his contract is up. Payet is done as a player when his contract is up.

Maybe but he's proved himself as something of a knob very early on which may well seriously affect his future opportunities and WBA's potential return (although I think he might've come through their youth side - not sure).

His contract runs for another 4 years though. He'll be 33 by then but would have picked up another £26m in wages. I'm sure he'll survive.

None of us know what is in his contract but I would be amazed and disappointed if he is paid while refusing to play.
