Just done 7000 miles in my 2016 S550 and had to replace both rear tyres. I'm no slouch, but certainty don't wheel spin either.

Is this typical?

Easy answer - I'll take it and perform some comprehensive, empirical and thorough tests to determine what the lower end of the scale is. This will take about 10 minutes. Then on the next set of tyres someone else can drive it everywhere at 60 mph to determine the upper range.

It's the only way to be sure...

(7,000 does seem a bit low)

I would expect more like 10k and even up to 14k.
What tyres are they?
The standard tyres are usually best replaced anyway.

Stock tyres are Pirelli "Summer tyres". Might be PZeros or something. Either/or, they're not great in the cold or wet and I wouldn't be surprised if they wear quickly as well.

This was my post from June and 6,500 miles

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I'm pleased to say that at 12,200 miles the new tyres still look pretty good. All four have been Pirelli POs

Had a good look yesterday and the rears are well worn compared to the fronts. Shame the sizes are different or I would swap them around.

You guys are doing well, my Pzero were on the markers at 4500 miles. biggrin

I am now on MPSS tyres and they have vastly more grip in all conditions but by some voodoo magic are also more progressive. smile

worn out the P Zero Neros after 20k, rotations performed every 5k (Standard U.S Ford dealer approach). Just switched over to Conti Winter contact SI for the Wisconsin winter.

That is what I would expect, around 20K miles on a set.

On both my Camaros and my C6 'vette the tyre life was in line with 18-20K miles per set in normal driving.

Square (ie rotated) setup?
No, different front and rear. Rears do wear out a bit faster, but not enough to worry about. I'll change all 4 at the same time anyway.

I was pretty hard on my P Zeros over the 2 and a half years I had them on the car, I never liked them much as all seasons strike me as a bit Jack of all trades master of none. When I got rid of them they were showing around 4/32s (3mm) when I got rid of them. As an expat Brit I was used to summer tyres so found the all seasons in summer a bit too hard and slippery.

Just changed the rears on mine at 9600 miles as they were on the wear markers.

Swapped the P-Zeros for Michelin Pilot Super Sports which I already find to be much grippier in damp/wet conditions.

Front tyres still have 5mm of tread left so will be a while before I change those.
