If you could only do one, which would it be ?

It's this coming Friday, weather looks dry and sunny, but cold (6 - 10 degree)

Did both last summer, and for me col d'iseran. Worth doing all the way up through Val and down to Italian side.

Out of those two, I'd prefer Iseran north to south but if it meant I could do PETIT St Bernard south to north too I'd do Iseran that way around too!

For me, Pt St Bernard is less dramatic but a better drive than either of the other two, non are that far apart from each other so you could probably work 2 or all into the same route

RE Gr Bernard I'd rather do it south to north, the Hospice at the top gives me the creeps!

If you drive through the Mt Blanc tunnel you turn right before you get to Courmayeur, it will take you through THE Italian Job
tunnel, over the top of the Col and drop you down just outside Bourg St Maurice onto the road that leads to Val Disere if you turn left

It's high but it's not like Isreran or Galibier

North to south starts tight (up) and has faster turns on the descent of the south side hence brakes tend to do better going up the fatster south side and you can enjoy it more

I've fried brakes coming down the south side and it's spoilt it and spoilt Iseran straight after (incidentally the drive from Seez to Val is an absolute favourite regardless of the Iseran at the end)

If you are actually heading for Turin you may want to look at working Col Du Mont Cenis into it!

Pt St Bernard is going to create a problem for Iseran if you do it south to north and will commit you to the Aoste valley but to get from Brides to the north side of Pt Bernard will mean you having to go over Megeve and through the tunnel to come back over Pt Bernard which would be a bit ridiculous

Brides is rigid?

You couldn't stay in Martigny and do both Bernards, Iseran and Mt Cenis then Turin?

The easy way is to just drive up the Maurienne valley and through the Frejus tunnel, but that's not for you!

Hi again

To take a look at the Iseran use this link, this shows you the Col from the Val D`Isere side (north) http://www.valdisere.com/en/webcams/fornet/

If you pan as afar right as possible on this cam it will show you the road just below the top on the south side http://www.valdisere.com/en/webcams/glacier-du-pis...

This link will give you cams on the Pt St Bernard http://www.larosiere.net/webcams.html

Last week I saw light snow on Iseran

thanks for the info

I like the look of Col Du Mont Cenis

plan is not ideal tbh, only have a few hours window in that region, before heading towards Turin, and then towards Andermatt

You have limited time so you can't do crazy detours just for the sake of driving, you'll enjoy the route you just posted!

You also don't have loads of options because you only have the choice of the mt blanc tunnel / Aoste valley / Tarentaise Valley / Val D'Isere or the Maurienne Valley and the Frejus tumnel or Mont Cenis to incorporate into a journey to Turin from Brides

It's nice to have done the whole thing and to go through the Italian Job tunnel but the French side is WAAAAAY better!

The road flows well doesn't it! As does the road to Val from the bottom of the Pt St Bernard

The road along the valley at the south side of Iseran is deceptively fast after tightness on the Col itself isn't it
