I am after peoples opinions please. I want to refurb the outer rims of my 350i wheels but not sure what would look best, polished, diamond cut or just repainted as per originals? any pics of yours would be great as well.

I went for all black powdercoat on mine - thought it suited the car more than going a two tone scheme.

Whatever you do in the rim area, the proper '80's look is to spray the centre lattice with the same colour as the car. Mmmmm matching boots.

Diamond cut and lacquer certainly looks very good but in next to no time the lacquer will chip and the damp will get in and spoil the finish. You pays your money and takes your choice.

You can always go for a slightly alternative blingy look... Not my favourite but too tight to change them right now.

Mine appeared to have had a relatively recent refurb by previous owner- spokes powder coated a very light gold tinted silver and the edge had been polished and lacquered. However, the lacquer was lifting and had not bound at all well to the surface.

I have had them done and the guys just stripped the lacquer and polished them- very happy with it:

New outer rims ' pretty easy to do as it goes ! Split them , painted the centres , new rims , new bolts & a bit of sealant . Oh & about £600 😮 + A set of original OZ donor wheels at £400 .

If you don't mind a bit of metal polishing have the centres painted or powdercoated but keep the outer rim bare with no laquer. Brake dust will stick to the bare polished metal but is easily polished off. If you laquer a polished surface the laquer will split on any sharp edges as there is no etch primer or key for it to stick, then water gets underneath and crazy white lines appear as the aluminium corrodes. Also putting a new tyre on the wheel will increase the risk of damaging the laquer on the outer edge. I've had a few wheels refurbed over the years and tbh no laquer is best, just a bit of elbow grease and metal polish from time to time.
Above wheels with no laquer

Thanks guys for all your pictures, i like all of them. Just had some quotes for both powder coating and diamond cutting and they have ranged from £280 to £320 and to be honest i have more pressing things that need that money spending on than wheels so i have decided to have a go at them myself and spend that money elsewere.
I will post some pictures of my efforts.

wow !! , mine to be powder coated all black cost me £40 a wheel. It did go upto £90 a wheel though to have the inner black and outer section diamond cut.

Good luck doing it yourself though, can be a good feeling when its done.. this was my attempt with my old Celica wheels.
