So we can't attempt to pass through as it wastes too much time. Better to build the numbers up launch aerial attacks and hope to pick up the second ball when it drops off the attackers/defenders head.
WAT? Perfectly possibly to pass the ball quickly through a team like ours if you have enough quality. But I thought passing was poor from both teams yesterday with many players not showing enough composure in possession.

It's about results. Maureen gets them.
Which is why you're sixth? tongue out
Agreed the quality frOm both teams was poor generally, the pressure certainly affected quite a few players.Neither side played anywhere near the level they can.

People generally underestimate the difficulty of getting through a decent and packed defence.

It's hard finding stats just for the second half, but The Telegraph's match report has a good timeline of the match here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/01/15/man...

From the 59th to 74th minute you had 53 seconds more of the ball than us. Did we park the bus before or after this period?

Interesting to see out of 90 + 5 injury minutes, nearly 37 minutes the ball was out of play!

I'm going with sometime between 59-74 when you started to defend deeper.

I think the possession was 55:45? And you had the least number of passes in the opposition half as you've had in any game this season? Played 1:5 long passes, which was the same as us, and played less short passes than United did. Think I've got all that right?

No, it was the for the launch of his emoji - apparently.

None of those stats suggest we "parked the bus". For example, when Utd parked the bus at Anfield in October you had 35% possession.

I wasn't talking about parking the bus, but trying to bring a bit of context to it being a United long ball game. You had very little passing in our half by your own standards, so had to resort to long balls, as much as we did.

Social media was nothng like it is now back then so it's impossible to compare. Fergie never seemed to have a problem with the players using Twitter etc though!

Who knows, it's a different era altogether. United have become more more commercial under the Glazer's, and football has also become more commercial.

Fellaini isn't the greatest player in the world, but 3 managers have now decided he's worth having around. He often causes absolute chaos amongst opposing defenders. So what if it goes a bit 'route 1' - if that's what it needs to get the points in the last 15-20 minutes, then so be it. And Fellaini is instrumental in many of these 'balls out' last 20 minute scrabbles for points.
Can't stand the guy but managers seem to like him, and I can see why as I never like it when I see you bring him on against us - he is very good defensively in corners, a threat and a menace when you are crossing, and there is a 50/50 chance he will elbow one of players in the face and cause some damage

Its not that long ago, only a few years.

He lost patience with beckham and his media obsession, also stam and keane with their books.

Each side can work the stats to suit any one of their arguments .... that well-known saying is true once again,

As I saw it, Lpool did 'more or less' what Utd did at Anfield, although Utd yesterday were hurling the long balls in cos they were behind. The Anfield game kinda petered out towards the end. Should have been 0-2 yesterday though before Utd scored ...

Pogba's a flat track bully though, nothing more, on yesterday's evidence. He's nowhere near quick enough to really be considered world-class ...

End of the day, long balls in the final 15 minutes got us a result against a very defensive setup from Liverpool. I don't see anything wrong with it and it shows we've got a plan B which I like.
yes

I've heard a lot of people criticising the long ball tactic today, but for me I'm encouraged that we have a manager who could see his initial tactics weren't working so changed them which ended up getting us something out of the game and keeping our unbeaten run going.

The only tactic your manager has is how to massage/control his ego. As for resorting to the big Sam long ball!!! clap

You really don't like that Maureen changed it up and got something out of the game do you? That's why he gets paid the big bucks and you and I don't. laugh

Have to agree, Arsenal fans bemoan their manager for not having a plan b, people say "route one" football isn't attractive but if you're playing against the high press and your link footballing midfielder isn't having a great day it works, better a point gained than none. Some of our best goals have been direct balls over the top.

Liverpool have had two league games against Utd and have scored in open play in neither. Barely had a shot on target.
Yet they are supposedly great.

Not seen anything from this Liverpool side to merit the media obsession. Nothing like as good as Chelsea and not as good as City or United.
