I'm not completely convinced it's a finishing problem so much as a final ball issue. Once we've created a real clear-cut chance, I'd say we convert it as well as anyone else. It seems to be the quality of the chances we're creating that looks a bit lacking meaning there is a shooting opportunity presented but it's rarely what you might call gilt-edged. The stats don't show this, merely that a shot has been got away and I reckon that's a big part of why we look such bad finishers on paper.
Eta: Oops, just seen Frankies stat so that suggests I'm at least partly wrong.

yeah, unfortunately the stats tell a story. According to Opta, we are the worst in the league at 'big chance' conversion, which presumably excludes the crazily speculative (looking at you Herrera) shots. Not just worst in the top 6, worst in the league. As in worse than Sunderland. Thats why we are where we are, and we'll stay near here too without an improvement in it (or a shocking decline in the teams above).
But the spirit and fight is back & im sure in time it will be turned around, just might be leaving it too late for this season.

The only thing that will get Utd into the top 4 is Liverpool's defence. It's terrible except when they park the bus.
Our finishing is horrendous, but everything else is solid.
Our goal difference is twice as good as yours. You've conceded just 6 fewer goals and yet we've scored nearly 20 more goals. I would suggest our problems with our defence are less serious than your problems with scoring. Our finishing is horrendous, but everything else is solid.
