He was LB, and unsuprisingly to most of us who have seen him there many times before, he was as ropey as a ropey thing. Totally lost his man for the first (disallowed) goal, could easily have given away a penalty in the same incident, and never really looked confident after. To be fair he did get the assist for Lingard's goal, and was better in the second half than first, but still way below what you would hope for from a starting first team LB. It's not really his fault, he's a decent enough CB at times, but I've never seen LB in him. Shaw must really have pissed on JM's chips or something

Also had no cover from Martial all game, which when he spends a lot of time inside covering for the liability that is Smalling is going to mean lots of crosses are going to come in from his side. Yes, he is prone to the odd "South American" moment but the defence looks much more solid with him in the middle and one of the other liabilities at lb…

Rooney was being prepared for the last few minutes and was being given instructions. We must have scored before he came on, and Maureen changed it to Fella. But he did celebrate it like he's been a part of the winning team which was good to see. Soton pressed us really hard, and we looked awful in defence. Mike, Bailly, and especially Rojo, were really poor and lacked composure throughout the game. Martial was really really bad as well. On a positive note, Harry was very good in the middle, Pog and Zlat were immense.
Does that make us the most successful English team ever or are we joint with the Scousers for trophies now? I'm sure Jammy will be along soon to confirm and congratulate us.

I really cannot agree. Watch the first half again. He got skinned almost every time; he missed the ball a few times; he gave away a penalty that wasn't spotted. He was miles away from crosses. I dont think anyone can argue that the defence has looked best with Rojo + one other in the middle, since Smalling came back and Rojo has been moved out wide it has all gone to crap, but its easy to just blame him without looking any deeper.
Had to drag the boys out of bed this morning for school, quite a long day for them. Enjoyed Wembley as always but getting a drink at half time was a joke! Sort the queues out!! Great to get another cup win and take the overall lead in trophies won! We're the greatest! Tough on Saints but that's football for you. I'll take a slice of luck although it's clear to see why the linesman flagged for offside! We weren't at our best yesterday but we keep on winning and I'll take that!!

I can see he might be a bit pissed off with the quality of play on display (though it's head and shoulders above what went on last season) but in his post match interview he seemed like a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He referred to pressure a bit too much for my liking.

Where were you sat? We had seats right in front of where the players were celebrating with the trophy. Not as good for atmosphere, but good views of the celebrations and Jose on the touchline.Zlatan...

Shaw is a difficult one, if he is still struggling either physically or mentally then it might be the case that he never gets over it, that would be a massive shame. Maybe some time on loan and playing regular would help him?XM5ER said:

I think he's enjoying himself but he's doing a great job of hiding it. He'll not be happy that his team are out of the premier league competition so may just be unwilling to go over the top. We're still in a few competitions and I'm sure that he'll want to win them all. With that in mind, he's got to remain focused and more importantly keep his players focused. We were in A-552, so in the upper tier about level with the 6 yard box. Decent atmosphere were we were, plenty of singing and cheering! anniesdad said:
