Have to agree, it would have given us different options at least. Heard a rumour Mata is out for the season, don't know if true but a big blow if it is.

We don't deserve CL football if we can't break this type of team down - it's not like we haven't had enough practice. Ah well, I was homesick for sixth anyway.

Awful game, but nigh on impossible to do anything when all the opposition are doing is defending and hoofing the ball away.

We need some target practice though as we're not getting anything on target at all.
We beat them 4-0 at home ..Just saying like.

How can they call themselves a premiership team when all they're willing to do is sit behind the ball and defend? They're not even trying to win and purely waiting on set pieces. It's pathetic.
Not watching the match - to which team are you referring?

I'm revisiting my view that Utd would get into the CL.

Not a chance. We have been found out - we cannot deal with a fully parked bus.

Tottenham managed to win 4-0 when West Brom parked the bus and played a back 6. When will Mourinho stop giving his players excuses? 0-0 home draws against Burnley, Hull and West Brom and he still thinks it's the other teams' 'fault'.

They've not had more time to practice parking the bus and obviously got better at it. The thing with these teams is that an early goal often means you can wallop them, but the longer it goes without a goal the worse it becomes for the home support.

Well that touched a nerve. We're doing Ok, we just need another proven finisher or two and we'll be fine. We've had a good few years of dross (including the last two SAF years) so to be challenging for a CL spot is actually quite nice. The fact that teams are coming to OT and parking the bus is a compliment to us. Over the last few years they'd come and have a go and often walk away with a win, nowadays they just defend for their lives and it's only our poor finishing that let's teams get away with it. On many occasions this year we could've hammered a team for 5 or 6, but for poor finishing, a poor decision or a world class display from a keeper.

I'm not downhearted this year at all. I am waiting for the inevitable Spurs end of season sell off though tongue out

I disagree. We have dominated almost every game we've drawn and been pretty unlucky in most of them. It's his first season, and one we have Griezmann and a couple of others, we'll be challenging for the title.

It's very different in terms of the football and "philosophy" from last year.

With teams like West Brom, if you score early enough to get them to stop parking the bus, it's not difficult to see how you beat them 4 nil.

I don't buy this "it's his first season" excuse. When Klopp came to Liverpool you could notice an improvement within weeks, with a poor squad massively down on confidence. Koeman at Everton has made more of an impact than Jose at Utd. As did Poch in his first season at Tottenham.

Jose is meant to be one of the top, top managers in the World, why is it taking him so long? His tactics aren't that complicated (not like Pep's at City anyway), it shouldn't take more than three quarters of a season to get to grips with them.

You don't think there has been a massive improvement over the last few seasons?

I think it's all too easy to understate the damage Moyes did to the club.

I'm pretty happy with much of what I've seen so far this season - the football is much better, but we need to sort out the conversion rate.

There's one trophy in the cabinet already, we've got a shot at the Thursday Night Cup and are within a handful of points of the top 4.

There's a huge improvement.

Are you only brave enough to come here when you've won?

"bks" "Jesus" in two posts. That sounds like a touched nerve to me. Either way whether we're miles behind or not matters little. There are no prizes for second in football, were either competing for the title, or we're not. Neither of us is competing for the title btw.

I think that Conte chap is doing alright in his first season too.

If we win our games in hand then we'll be level with you. Not bad for a st team, with a st manager. You decide which team I'm talking about tongue out

I agree.

But we do have a massive problem with breaking down bad teams. At the moment, it looks like keeping us out of the top 4.

Spurs still may well find a way to finish below Arsenal.

Most of the draws, you could see we were really unlucky. However yesterday we didn't play with the same energy, only had one real chance which was from a WB mistake. Performance wasn't good enough. Thought we really missed Pogba and Herrera in midfield.
