I remember that it was widely reported he had "retired" around the time he sgined, and the Cameroon manager was pretty clear that he didnt want to play back in august.

If that's the case, then why the hell would Cameroon make a fuss now? Surely Matip has no case to answer and he should be allowed to play of that's the case.http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/foot...
Reading that though - doesn't say "retired". Just that he's refused to play for the national team.

Today, Amrabat (sp?) was named in one country's lineup even though he's not in the tournament at all.

Matip hasn't retired. You don't retire at 25 and announce it a week or two before a tournament. Not that I read anywhere he announcing his retirement.
Of course I'd rather he played for us but you can understand why Fifa would be hesitant to support such a move.
Of course. I doubt there is such a thing as retirement anyway, it's just the player saying, "I don't want to play, please don't pick me." Of course I'd rather he played for us but you can understand why Fifa would be hesitant to support such a move.
I'd expect that the rules are such that if the manager picks a 'retired' player anyway they'd suspended from club games as that's the agreement between the leagues and national bodies. It just hasn't happened yet because managers generally don't want to pick players that don't want to play. And players usually want to play.

This whole tournament has been dogged with paperwork and eligibility issues right from the start. I think AFC Bournemouth couldn't play Benik Afobe in one game for a similar reason IIRC.

Thanks for that, wasn't aware. Sounds like their admin is totally incompetent, then.Today, Amrabat (sp?) was named in one country's lineup even though he's not in the tournament at all.
Thierry Henry has lauded Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, admitting he is in ‘awe’ of the Brazilian.
Firmino has become an integral player for the Reds since joining the club in 2015 and has contributed seven goals in 24 appearances this season.
The 25-year-old put in a lively performance at Old Trafford on Sunday as Jurgen Klopp’s side held United to a 1-1 draw.
Reflecting on Firmino’s performance, Henry told Sky Sports on Monday Night Football: ‘He is Jurgen Klopp’s favourite player.
‘Not because he has the quality of a [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic but what he does in midfield is outstanding.
‘Yesterday, I was in awe of what he was doing – at times it was too much. The way he bends his run forces United to play it back.’

Firmino is a very good player. Immediately transformed under Klopp. If i do have a criticism it's that he isn't as clinical in front of goal as I'd like him to be. And when played out wide, with our current striker options, he doesn't link up as well. I'm thinking the lack of cohesion with Sturridge or Origi.
Still a drink driving imo who I'd happily watch being slapped silly by a line of people who've lost loved ones to similar selfish drink drivers. But that's my opinion on all drink drivers and not exclusively towards Firmino.

He is a our Sanchez. He brings so much energy to the team, tracks back, makes good runs and has an eye for goal. Still learning, still makes mistakes but a very good player. http://www.fullmatchesandshows.com/2017/01/16/gary...

Enjoying that. Carra saying "he doesn't normally sign autographs, he's doing it cause he knows you're doing a documentary" Gary Neville the pundit, quite a bit with Carragher on - have to admit they do make a great show
