Looks like their goalie could be in trouble for the pie eating stunt

Truly bizarre situation.

8/1 for Eating a pie FFS!
I can see why he might be in trouble for it. Probably did it with good intentions but when the betting company on your shirt was trying to get people to spend money on the possibility of you doing it, the conflict of interest is obvious
So if a company sets odds of you doing something during a professional match you can't do it?
He would have known about the bet in advance, so could very easily have told his friends and everyone in the dressing room to place a bet on it happening. Just like getting everyone to put money on you being sent off then deliberately getting a red card.

He broke the rules, so like you say, being aware of it, could have weighed his mates in. On the other hand, the offer was clearly a mickey take out of his weight on the part of The Sun, so good on him, I hope they got taken for £££'s.

The difference is that is unsportsmanlike and the team suffers, this is the basis of why these regulations exist.
if wayne rooney told his friends "I'm feeling in great shape today and I'm going to try and score 6 goals!" then did, there wouldn't be any rules breached (presumably)

The sub keeper having a pie after half time is different.

It was a comedy bet, and it's nice to see The Sun lose money. But if he did breach regulations the intention or comedy factor ultimately don't matter.

hah, in that case I'd give it 10 minutes before they are working out if the pie was halal, what if the pie seller was an immigrant and specifically whether or not Trump knew about it in advance.

For what it's worth, I've signed.

Ill advised? Probably.

Taking an obviously fun bet (at his expense) at face value? Definitely.

While he obviously can affect the outcome of the bet directly, if a betting company want to lay odds on something he can entirely control, without opposition from anyone, that's their lookout. If sunbet laid odds on three players doing the Macarena as their goal celebration, you wouldn't be able to persecute players for doing it, as it is outside the competitive realms of the sport. As such, I don't see where the rules apply to this incident.

Sunbet will be rubbing their hands at the publicity this is generating for them, with no thought to the cost either from paid out bets, or to Shaw and the club.

Football at the lower levels can't afford to throw committed people to the wolves for something like this.

Well he was always going to be the deciding party on the outcome of the bet, so how could he possibly do wrong??

He decides to either 1.eat the pie, or 2.not eat the pie. Either way it is clearly him deciding, and he had to chose one of the above. There was no choice for him not to get involved.

This was purely advertising buy the betting company who clearly knew they were going to loose.

The ramifications of Piegate continue.

After chubby bloke leaves Sutton ,now their regular goalie is injured and they have no reserve

so a defender has had to go in goal today.

Wonder what odds you could have got on that happening?

Seen that ,I wasn't sure whether the keeper started the game or not.
