The inconsistency of all of these posters is unreal. Also the meltdowns that are happening and tetchiness coming out some true colours are being shown.

I notice Liverpool are now back into a transitional season now they’ve lost a game, that thread is comedy.
Yes it's a special read, those 2 results taking a little of the pain away.

Am I alone here in thinking that Europa leage is probably a better option for us at the moment, not withstanding the financial implications of course and hearing that music. I really don't think we would get very far in the CL with this squad as it is unless we make 3 or 4 landmark signings in the summer. Making a real fist of the EL and actually putting in some effort in terms of close to full strength team selection, you never know we could even win it. Will still need a couple of very good additions to the squad though

Versus any other team, maybe. Against City? I can’t see it.

Spurs are going to have a huge say, given you still have to play City and you’ve got some great results against them in the past.
Make your mind up biglaugh
I don’t think that’s contradictory, I can’t see it happening but if it does happen, it’ll likely be against a team they’ve lost to in the recent past. Makes sense to me at least biggrin

You play more games in EL and have to play Thursdays, all effecting league performances (and therefore CL qualification). EL is worthless unless you actually win it. They'd be better off having no European football at all again.

CL brings in £50m+ and is a draw for players to come to the club. 5th place will almost certainly result in a CL place. So even if we only beat Burnley and Sheff U, and lose to Chelsea, Scouse, Arse and Citeh; Newcastle or United would have to win all 6 of their remaining games to guarantee finishing above us.

To be fair our fixtures this season have been a joke with the scheduling, not many 3pm kick offs on a Saturday, plenty of night midweek fixtures which are much much tougher to make. I have only managed 3 games this season.

Good for those of us who cannot go to every home game though.

Pretty much every game has been on TV this year apart from the 3pm Saturday games.

Is that still the case with hamsters and dippers almost certainly going out to Italian and German teams?

Woolwich also looking like they could go out too

We're pinning our hopes on Leverkusen still being hung over from celebrating their league win, so don't expect too much from us biggrin

I'm sure the authorities will be docking City 20 points or more any day now, so we'll be battling Villa for 3rd place.

5th Place CL is anything but guaranteed. Also getting CL for 5th place is rubbish tbh.

Your last paragraph also reads like Levy could have written it. What good is earning £50m if we don't spend it on better players? We've also been in the CL at least 5 or 6 times in the last decade, when have we ever used it to get top talent?

CL is a way for Levy to fill his pockets nothing more. I'm truly not fussed if we get CL or not, especially if we get it by coming 5th.

As a fan surely football's only purpose is to entertain, so why would you not want to potentially have European nights at your ground against the best teams from across the continent?

Also, didn't you spend nearly £300m on players last summer? Surely most were upgrades on what you already had? VDV, Maddison, Vicario, Johnson etc.

Appreciate you didn't replace Kane, but he did leave late in the window and doing so would have pushed your spending up to £350-£400m in a single window?

You seem detached from the financial realities of modern football. If you want success and entertainment, you need better players. If you want better players you need more money to pay for them. CL qualification is worth more than winning the whole EL. Plus increasing the profile of the club, increasing commercial opportunities and attraction to potential signings. Even if Levy pocketed half the revenue, there would still be more to spend on players than playing in the EL. It's like saying you don't want to get promoted from the Championship because we won't win the Prem and the owners will just take all the money......If we were to play in the EL next season, we won't be "giving it a good go", quite the opposite in fact. It will be sidelined in favour of trying to finish in a CL qualifying position in the league. A task made all the harder by having to play a whole load of additional fixtures on a Thursday. You may want to play in the EL, against a load of second rate clubs, in a second rate competition but the players don't or the management or the owners.
