Great comeback smile

Can anybody explain why the Netherlands have to lose their last game for us to go through?
So as I suspected- the commentary last week was completely wrong...

4-0 so all we need to do is outscore the Netherlands in the second half - which looks likely smile

Outrageous ending and permutations.

At least it's just the Nations League thing. England will be fine.

Shame for TeamGB.

I think England needed to qualify in the top 4 of this Nations League - because they were selected through some process. But Scotland players could have been included in a GB team for the Olympics….

England were nominated as the team to effectively represent and try to qualify for the Olympics on behalf of Team GB, as obviously Team GB as a football team do not exist outside of the Olympic games.

The qualification criteria was reaching the final of the Nations League, which they've failed to do (as it turns out, they needed to beat Scotland 7-0 to finish top of their group).

So we end up in the weird situation where effectively Scotland (or at least, the few players from Scotland who may have been subsequently selected in the Team GB squad) had it in their gift to give themselves a chance of reaching the Olympics, by allowing England to hammer them.

Always will be as long as we insist on having a football team for each of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom whilst they are brought together as one nation at the Olympics under the banner of the "Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team"

And we are one nation at the Olympics because we are one nation state (United Kingdom) at the United Nations ...

Not being racist etc biglaugh but the idea of a global womens' footy comp without the England team in it is a bit mad.

I guess the argument is that we should have done better in earlier games so we had control etc..

From the FIFA website, which doesn't seem to have been updated recently, already qualified teams for the Olympics are Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, and USA.
Seven others are meant to be joining these.
Two from Australia, Japan, Korea DPR and Uzbekistan in a qualifying tournament to be played in February.
Two from Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zambia in a qualifying tournament to be played between February and April.
One from something called an OFC qualifying tournament which is to be played next February.
Then (the site says) two from the UEFA womens' nations league A group excluding France – but UEFA's site says that four teams have qualified from this, viz Netherlands, Spain, Germany and France.
I'm confused.

Interesting, an England forward who has scored 16 goals in 84 appearances - not exactly stunning. Compare that to Alessia Russo who has 18 from 38.

Big loss.

The goal factor is because she's so versatile and has been deployed almost everywhere on the pitch other than up front for England. She's spanking them in for Villa.
