It’s 5-0 at time of writing. Can’t see Hecky last until 7pm tonight to be honest, gives them chance to get home and have the meeting.

McBurnie sent off for a change helps nobody. Damage limitation at the minute, obviously we’re down I think it’s a matter of it not being embarrassing!

Utterly dire.

Two must win games and we've been thrashed both times. Newcastle fair enough. But Burnley....

Where's the spirit and desire?

I'm not a fan of the sack race, but the whole team needs putting out of its misery.

We played well against a below par Wolves side. But other than that, it's going from bad to worse frown

McBurnie's always been a deadweight. He was barely a Championship class forward, let alone Premier League standard. But he's not the only one in the side, and even our proper stalwarts are way off the pace.

When we were last relegated, my main hope was not beating Derby's record. I can see us doing that on these sort of performances.

Tragic.

Surprised to not see a post from you 2 this last week.

As mentioned on my previous post, I felt a change was probably needed, although Hecky was/is not to blame.

They looked a hell of a lot better last night, Vini in particular. Not sure about giving Fleck a run out, but there we go.

A few people have said 'Oh big game Saturday' - I think it was over for us a month ago to be honest. Everton will stay up and so will Forest, I think. Us, Luton and Burnley is my prediction.

Luton are proving to have some proper spirit. They could possibly escape. Maybe Bournemouth or Palace will see themselves slide. Forest are far from secure too. As long as Calvert-Lewin stays fit, Everton will be OK.

We were down two weeks before the season began sadly.

I think I may have mentioned it up thread, but I'm a fan of Wilder. However, I don't like the way he left the club, and don't see what has changed since he left to make the situation any different. At least not for the better.

Personally I'd rather have had Warnock back (someone I like a lot).

Could have brought Houdini in, or Big Sam, and it would make no difference though. We simply do not have enough good enough players.

All I want to see now is:

1) Some actual fight and effort (I enjoyed the Wolves game!)
2) More than 11 points at the end of the season. We have enough crap records, I don't want that one!

Anything else, anything, will be a bonus.

I'll try and get up for another couple of games with my two lads to see if we can bring the lucky mascot piece again smile

If I had a few hundred million I'd buy the club...that's what we really need...a new owner who wants to waste a st load of cash.

Luton fan in peace.

Yesterday felt like a Championship game. Every goal scrappy, and the game lacked a bit of quality, especially in the second half.

Do you guys reckon Wilder’s rather public calling out of the players will do the trick?

Nope. (Though it's deserved and I wish more managers would be that honest!). I wasn't overjoyed when I heard he was coming back. He's not the answer.

It needs some fresh, quality blood into the team who is prepared to put a massive shift in, both on the training ground and on the pitch IMO.

Your guys never, ever give up. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of ours.

It comes in fits and starts, but put simply the squad isn't good enough to see out a full 100mins of prem level football. They were (clearly) a very strong Championship team... Before sales and injuries. The current squad would be struggling for top 6 in that league right now.

Said it elsewhere, but the gap between prem level and championship level is now a chasm IMO. Yes, the owners and injuries haven't helped Sheff Utd. But Burnley and Sheff Utd romped the Championship last season.

Unless FFP causes upsets, I think we can expect to see a greater number of the promoted clubs go straight back down more often.

(Just glad I saw the Wolves game smile Will be trying to get to a couple more this season... But not sure it was our presence that helped biggrin).

Good luck to you guys this season. Though I think the bottom 3 now are going down - the others around just seem able to win at the right time. (Unless Everton get another 10pt deduction smile).

Completely agree on the gap between the Championship & Premier League. You’d never get now what happened previously with Ipswich being promoted and getting into Europe (or very close) the following season. Burnley have spent £50m in addition to what their squad cost already…ouch.

I’ve watched the highlights back again with the dust having settled and the own goals are a little unfortunate, but Wilder’s point about being deep in the box is fair. Overload the box enough and these things have a habit of taking a deflection and ending up in the back of the net. Wycombe made a success for years out of playing this way.

Not quite sure what McBurnie was moaning about in his post match interview though - the “corner” that lead to the equaliser was a foul, and McBurnie spent half of the match backing into and fouling the defender. However, both Luton & Sheffield United share some similarities in their approach, and physicality is certainly one of them.

Luton are fortunate to have an incredible manager - Edwards is simply brilliant at getting the most out of the players we have, and he seems a jolly decent human being, too. If we do manage to stay up, having spent under £10m last summer (over half of it on one player, Giles, who hasn’t shown what he’s capable of yet) , it will be one of the great escapes.

Two of our best signings are ironically freebies; Ross Barkley has undeniable quality and gives a calmness on the ball nobody else in the team has, and Chedozie Ogbene has livewire pace, trickery and strength to relieve pressure by simply exploding up the wing.

Finally, my pal & I were impressed with how friendly the locals were in Sheffield (I think we collectively bonded in the pub watching the Newcastle game, where both sets of fans wanted a Geordie win! biglaugh). Despite being disappointed after the game, no hint of bother afterwards walking back to the car, either. Top fans and best wishes for the rest of the season, apart from the return visit to Kenilworth Road, of course!

biggrin

The club's done a fair amount to try and make it more family friendly IMO. And I think it's generally worked. I'm happy to take my boys (11 and 8) along...wouldn't have been to local derbies in the 80s!

Any vitriol tends to get directed at the pitch smile

When we got the draw against Villa it was disappointing to see everyone else around us match or better that. When things aren't going your way...

My youngest and I are looking forward to the Championship already biggrin

Checking in.

Luton was dire but agree with all the points posted above. Huge gap in quality and we will/would struggle in the Championship in our current situation.

Also agree that Wilder is not the answer although I hope I'm wrong (I'm well aware we are definitely down this season, I mean the big picture).

I did go to City, first time sitting on the top tier - previously on the bottom one and it was a very difference experience. 2-0 you would take after seeing what Newcastle did to us. Not bothering with Gillingham - bugger that.

Looking forward to Villa at home, late KO in Feb under the lights. Can't see us getting anything but I do enjoy the 5:30 KO on a Saturday - you can really make a day of it.

Gone quiet here - I think a similar consensus at The Lane in that people have generally lost interest. We're going through the motions and hoping to start again next year after the inevitable.

Points from yesterday - Brewster should not wear the shirt again - he is an idiot/child/liability/all of the above. If he isn't injured, he's suspended.

McBurnie is crap, even the penalty wasn't convincing.

Brereton Diaz is a good player, hopefully he'll stay next year (I think its a season long deal?).

We did deserve a point.

Still need two more points smile

Brewster was a bum deal after his first couple of games. Potential unrealised. Looks like a Dele Ali but with less raw talent.

McBurnie's also always been crap. He's League One material. No way was that was a penalty for us. Agree we deserved a point, but by the rules that should have been a loss.

Brereton Diaz looks hungry. The team needs someone like that to galvanise them. If he can inject some gumption into the front line we might actually score a few. Him, Archer, Hamer and Osula could all do something. But equally could fizzle.

The back end of the team is also not firing either. Some poor defensive mistakes in every game.

We should get more than 11pts (still cannot fathom how bad Derby must have been), but there is no way on earth relegation will be avoided, and I'm pretty convinced we'll finish bottom. Wilder will be gone at the end of the season. And then I fear so will the half decent prospects we have now.

I don't see much prospect of bouncing back up either. Tough times ahead. Needs an owner who really cares rather than treats it as a toy, but don't see that happening (I am in the 111m lotto draw though biggrin).

All feels a bit damp at the moment. Noticed they're struggling to sell FA Cup tickets. We're away otherwise would have gone. But I guess people are expecting Wilder to field a (more) crap side and for Brighton to roll us easily.

Tale of the season.

Though at least they're looking a little bit threatening in front of goal.

11pts continues to elude.

First half. Pretty decent. Unreal scoring so early. Very much competitive but like a basketball match and no security.

Second half, changed shape and we never got into it. Palace much the better team.

The laroucci sub added nothing other than personnel rotation

Ultimately we were undone by two players who are worth £100m between them and who scored a couple of great goals
