I think Slot will still have a say in who he wants. Whilst we don't know the internal mechanics, I'd hope it was something along the likes of: Slot identifies the TYPE of player he wants: fast, young, maybe fluent in English. Perhaps even names a few players. Richard Hughes then takes the coaches requirements and scours the market for potential players that could be available, looks at the data analysis, identify who are young enough, experienced enough, available at a market rate with some sell-on potential and a good injury history too. Draws up a 3 player short-list with ceiling transfer spend on each. Slot prioritises the players in order and to his preference, budget required is reviewed and signed off Edwards, Hughes then approaches each club with potential offer. Negotiation ensues, player(s) agree terms, Slot has final say who he wants.

Basically Slot I would hope is still active in the process but all the negotiation and budget approval stuff is left to Hughes and Edwards.
That's how I saw it happening. God help us if we had chosen the Chelsea model of telling a coach "these are your players, get on with it" hehe

Much of that is what I would be hoping for - fewer injuries, and not only a tactical change but someone who can change tactics when necessary. To do that, you need intelligent players too, of course. "Burnout" was something noted in players under Klopp at Dortmund too. Would be nice if we can keep players fit and fresh for longer.

By all accounts he's a good man manager who will give kids a chance and develop them. On paper he looks a good fit. Hope so.

Wouldn't it be better to sell at this point in time for a big amount, then get a couple of quality players to help your rebuild like you did with Coutinho?

I would have no issue with him being sold for a decent amount
May change my mind if he helps win the last 3 games

yes, particularly the way his form has dropped off a cliff

I would say this is the better option at this point

We've been here before - last year most were saying we had had his best and if Saudi wanted him he should go etc. And last time he came back from AFCON and his form dipped badly too.

And the fact is that both seasons we'd have certainly missed his goals when he was on form - first half of this season before his injury he and Nunez in particular were linking really well. And scoring.

When fit and sharp, he doesn't look like a 31 yr old player. I guess they will determine how he is after the summer break. If he looks spent, like Henderson did last year, they will get rid.

'Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa voted against the possible introduction of a spending cap on Monday, while Chelsea abstained.'

What a shock...

I'm surprised Villa voted against it, the other 3 not so much. Doesn't it need 16 clubs to vote in favour for a rule change to happen?

I think it's a good thing as it levels the playing field somewhat, hopefully it will put the emphasis firmly on youth development

Mo wants one more crack at the CL. It's why he didn't leave in the summer. If he wants to stay, then Edwards is doing the right thing IMO in retaining value via a future transfer by offering Salah a 1 or 2 year extension. Might not be the £150m but will still be a sizeable fee. Despite his recent form, Salah will still add value to the team IMO next season, similar to what we saw in the first half of this season.

EPL spending cap is a daft idea… just puts English teams at a disadvantage vs other European leagues when it comes to ECL and recruitment. Any restrictions need to apply equally to all European teams.

As for Salah (and some of the recent comments about Klopp)… football fans have ridiculously short memories… we’d be nowhere near top 4 without Mo’s contribution in the 1st half of the season. Sell him to who? For how much? (Realistically). And then replace him with who?

A few poor games and the entire squad plus Klopp’s achievements are written off and forgotten wink

Neville is spot on there, about Salah and about LFC this season. I saw something he wrote or said a few weeks back where he said Liverpool were over performing (paraphrasing) - basically they had done really really well in a transition season but they would find it hard to keep that level of performance going until May, while Arsenal and City were looking like they were comfortably playing at that higher level. So it proved.

Sometimes he does very well to be balanced and hide his anti LFC feelings. Sometimes...

Yeah, he’s spot on.

The belief seemed to disappear after the FA Cup debacle… we seemed to lose the confidence that whatever happened we’d could always score one more.
