Its all click bait at the moment, and to your point no-one know what is going on behind the scenes. You can expect that INEOS are doing their due diligence and will be making decisions regarding the manager.

New owners always tend to want to make a statement and have their own man in the dug out, and given the potential churn of managers in the summer from the top clubs they might decide that someone is too good to turn down and sack ETH, but they might also decide that ETH is the right man and continue with him for next season.

A couple of reasons I think he will be the manager for next season is the following:
- The CEO and DOF normally pick the manager and potentially they wont be in place until after the summer.
- Very good first season, not great second season but there is mitigating circumstances and it would be good to see what could happen next season with
a better squad and less injuries
- ETH contract has one year left so if you sack him it will cost a chunk of money, plus a new manager will want to come in and maybe you need to pay to
get him and he will want a raft of new signings and we dont have the money
And we’ll be competing for managers with Liverpool, Bayern and Barcelona in this off season. That won’t make it easy.

Agree on the due diligence and if ETH delivers the FA Cup and Champions league I really doubt he’s going anywhere. He’s far from everyone’s cup of tea but I’m with you on giving him another season.

Yea I did mean Southgate but I should have made my opinion clearer . I really cannot see how Southgate is a better option than ETH , He's won nothing & the football England play is turgid beyond belief unless you want to see 3 cdm's play every week.

After the fantastic game & result against a full strength Liverpool side at the weekend I'd say this is the perfect time to get behind the current coach .

No side could have had the injuries that we've had to cope with this season without it having a negative effect on results, especially in defence, it's been incredible. So to be in the FA cup semi final and still have an outside chance of top 4 is the best that we could have done I think no matter who the manager is/was.
I would give him another year, I'm certainly not taking the Southgate reports seriously, to me it's just infantile reporters with nothing to write about who have an axe to grind.

True, but all sides had significant injury lists.

For me, based on earlier conversations here, it's been a bit like having a lead singer in a band without any band members. With such a poor structure behind him there is a limit to what can be achieved by anyone.

Also, it's not like there are a load of brilliant managers fighting to replace him.

The team are improving and although it has been a bit of a bumpy ride this year we're way ahead of Chelsea and NUFC and there's a slight possibility that we could make top 4 (although admittedly unlikely). With our young players really coming through the future does feel more positive than it has been this season.

I’m sure it’s all paper talk about Southgate-I fking hope so!!
As said above, all the papers will have had their obituaries already written for ETH before the game on Sunday-beating Liverpool has pissed on their cups somewhat..

With quotes from which member of United’s new sporting board and Southgate?

I have no doubt INEOS are looking at every manager under the sun, and Southgate might be on that list. Doesn't mean that we are defo in for him.

This spread like wildfire on twitter yesterday, a couple of journo's wrote an article about, and then everyone is reporting off the back of that.

Thats going to make it interesting. If those clubs are looking for managers as well, then potentially United might struggle to get the man they want. Also on the flip side, that means lots of managers might be available and should you jump and get one knowing that they might go to rival and you miss the boat.

Can’t really see an improvement over last year , but I think the injuries having an enormous impact , not just the quantity but I think it’s obvious shaw and Martinez are arguably the 2 most influential players as demonstrated by how we play when they are fit compared to when they are injured and they have been injured almost the entire season .

I don't read these papers, but these are today's front pages: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-686128...

Daily Mirror: Southgate target for Man U job
Daily Star: Man Utd: we want Southgate

Has anyone read the articles? Is there anybody at the club providing the quotes?

If not, what is journalist sources? If no source, how can they publish this st?

Can someone paste the articles here?

The injury thing is a bit convenient IMO. I’m sure it’s had some impact but a lot seem to be laying the whole of the season on that. Other teams have had to contend with a lot of injuries too without it completely derailing their season. Newcastle are the exception to that, although I think their squad is fairly poor too.

We have a fairly weak squad. Our first XI isn’t exactly setting the world on fire or very Inspiring. Our understudies are sticking plasters at best. know we’ve got a massive rebuilding job to do, but it feels like we’re still turning to the same players as our first XI and any new recruits haven’t really covered themselves in glory.

Poor recruitment, overpaying and now FFP are hitting us harder than anything else. Add to that there are still questions over our playing style and tactics and it’s not brilliant. Last weekend was once again fantastic and great fun, even more so that we stuffed the Scousers and their nonsense quadruple chat but it’s maintaining that now that really matters.

Looks like the initial report came from Daily Star - Jeremy Cross, and include this:

Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford have consulted some of United’s former greats about who should replace Ten Hag. And the overwhelming choice was Southgate.

Southgate also has the backing of some of United’s current players - and incoming director of football Dan Ashworth. Southgate has a close relationship with Ashworth following their time together at the FA, with the latter being a huge supporter of the 53-year-old.

Thats it nothing else. The Mirror ran the same story, but quoted the Star as the source biglaugh
They have also managed to ran more stories on what United could look like under Southgate, and a cost of sacking ETH.

Nice easy way to drive those clicks.

Why would Gareth want to go to United - particularly if England have a successful Euros? He clearly enjoys working with a fabulous group of players. Kick on and win WC26..

rofl nobody wants Southgate. His football is horrific. Moyes style at best. Set up not to lose and then hope someone produces a flash of genius to win you the match. Stand there baffled when the opposition score first.
