Spotted something at the Ipswich game the other day which led me to reasses my views on referees.
I've previously thought that they show varying degrees of ineptitude right up to being outright biased against Forest.
Forest players tend to take throw-ins from where the ball went out
Forest players tend to take free kicks from where they happened
Forest players tend to take quick free kicks even though opponents are only one or two yards from the ball
Forest players don't tend to wretly opponents in the area
Forest defenders don't tend to shove opponents when long balls come in
Forest players don't tend to waste time
Previously I thought referees allowed opponents to get away with all these things but not Forest.
What I've realised is that because we don't do those things the referee actually allows both teams to get away with it. It's just that we don't do it, so don't benefit.
See the subtle difference?
It doesn't make the referees any less inept, it's just that we're not being singled out. They just don't apply certain rules. Forest play to the rules, our opponents often don't.
A classic on Saturday was while a player was being treated Ipswich had the ball for a throw in. The RB put the ball on the floor, kicked it ten yards up the line then walked to where it stopped and picked it up. Then when the ref waved play on he gained another 5 yards or so.
In the second half Weldwyk went to take a quick throw and gained about a yard. The ref waved him back, but at the same time the Ipswich LB blocked Weldwyk from taking the throw anyway.

Well yesterday's performance was poor.
Think I've found the reason, Last night I saw Assombolonga in the Bowery club in town. That's the second time I've seen him there in 4 weeks
Back to the football, maybe it was a good thing to lose our unbeaten record as we were setting up not to lose in the last few games I feel. Maybe now we will go out to win games like we did in August.
Onwards to Tuesday

Chance to put the wrongs right tonight. We won't get anywhere being cautious. Watford a re on a great run, and I don't think have lost a home game for quite a while.
Need to get at them, a win tonight puts us level with Watford on 24 points. Hopefully we will be back to our best.
Anyone going?

Decent result, Antonio and Assambalonga are surely Championship signings of the season so far.
Long season ahead, but could do with 3 points against Blackburn.
The Championship remains the same every year, a run of four or five results see you in the top two or at least the playoffs. 5 points covers half the team at the moment, which is why those draws are so painful. Long season ahead, but could do with 3 points against Blackburn.
But generally the team with the best strike force gets out of the division, so I am still confident. However we need to find a way to avoid our traditional Feb March slump

Agree. I think we'll avoid the Feb-March slump, I think that was a Billy creation - he'd spend January telling the world he needs a new team and then wonder why the existing players' motivation and confidence would collapse. Eejit.
