Why are some of the top clubs buying so heavily into 8th place?
I hinted that this was the case on the Liverpool thread and they didn't like it. Mind you, I was all ranty and annoyed as I'd just read the Chambers news, so I wasn't making much sense either hehe
Fair hehe

Although it is a stupid comment IMHO. Most EPL teams are made up a couple of stand out players, a couple of duds, and the rest good quality - doesn't apply possibly to bottom 3 and City perhaps Chelsea. Also outside of the top 4/5 there is a greater tendency to play youth as the clubs don't have the funds to buy stars/foreigners in for every position.

Therefore most sides have 1 or 2 very good players that could get in to most EPL teams, and some have some excellent youth players that look the next big thing. The biggger teams buying some of either doesn't weaken them, it unfortunately weakens the selling lcubs massively though (which in turn further helps the bigger teams stay up there)
My logic was kinda there though - you wouldn't see Arsenal, City or Utd buying up all the stock from an 8th placed team, would you? They might go for one stand-out signing (like Shaw), but hoovering up half the squad (considering JRod is linked, though I expect he'll go spuds) doesn't set out clear intentions to me, as how many of these players would have signed knowing they'd be rotated? Lallana had a cracking season, but he's not the answer to Liverpool's issues. Lovren was probably the signing that made sense.

On the other hand, I talk st a lot and was emotionally charged! It's funny, my mum's a Liverpool 'fan' (I use the term fan, as opposed to supporter) and when I was growing up, I also took a keen interest in all things Liverpool. She even bought me shirts, so I had saints gear and also the odd Liverpool bit. My Dad doesn't like footie, so I guess it was a sort of way of bonding with me mum!
I liked their team (Fowler, McManaman, Redknapp, McAteer....that kind of era) and the passing style of football. We weren't on the telly much back then (doubt we will be next season either!) so it was nice to sit with her and watch them, especially games like the Newcastle 4-3 jobbies. I'd always cheer them on with her, unless they were playing us of course! I suppose you could say they were a kind of second team for a few years. I'd never really have classed myself as a supporter as I wasn't too fussed whether they actually won or not - I'll feel st for the remainder of the day if we lose, but I never had that with them.

That all kinda died off when I started going out more having started driving. Never started disliking them as such, just became neutral to them like Arsenal, Everton, Villa etc. Never had any beef with teams like those (apart from Arsenal luring Walcott and the Ox away, but at least a few years separated those!)

Until now. Now I fking hate them! On the same level as Chelsea, and that's saying something. So now in terms of who I'd like to see win the title, it's just down to Arsenal. I won't hold my breath!

Tadic for way less than half the fee we got for Lallana - that's looking like very good business.

Even more so if he's not made of glass and can last more than 65 minutes..

That's been my thoughts. He looks pretty lively and eager for the ball. Slightly more aggressive than AL, but still has the fancy footwork to match. Passing might be slightly behind, but he's young.

It is, one of the best players of the Eredivisie last season. Just as Pelle by the way.....

On the other hand, the transfer fees the English clubs pay eachother are ridiculous. Not just for Lallana (who ?? Lallana.......) or whatever he's called..

There are a lot of stories coming out of the club that does not put Banana in a very good light.
The club did not even bother to give him a thank you , unlike SRL , when he moved to Liverpool.
As I have said before it will be interesting how he gets on with a big club, seeing he could not follow instructions from MoPo which resulted in him being dragged off after 60-70 mins !

Had to laugh tonight when Lovren could not obtain a visa to join the tour in the States. He now has to train with the under 21's at home rofl

Looking like Inter & Saints have agreed a year long no-cash swap deal with 22 year old French / Algerian midfielder Saphir Taider heading to St Marys and Osvaldo headbutting his way to the San Siro. Options to buy for both clubs in June 2015.

Know nothing about Taider, but pleased to see us getting something from the Osvaldo debacle.

Interesting. Osvaldo will probably bang in 25 goals in Serie A now!

Not much out there on Taider; 22, midfielder, French-born and played for them as a youth but chose Algeria as a senior. Ex-Bologna, Juve and Inter. "Hard-working, combative midfielder".

Could be promising

So, Ryan Bertrand signs on a 12 month loan deal.

This will probably kill off the last few rumours which had Marcos Rojo as a potential target for Koeman.. grumpy

Bertrand's a good player, happy with that. I suspect they're hoping Targett will make the step at the end of the 2014 season.

More likely just to get something (anything) positive out of the disastrous Osvaldo situation..

From what I've read, I don't think Taider would be fit to lace Schneiderlin's boots..

Lovren we needed
Lambert is back up and a useful striker of the type we don't currently have, he was cheap and a lifelong LFC fan - so a good fit
Banana - potentially very useful addition, we need more quality because we will have to rotate in EPL v CL, jury is out of course - hopefully can continue last season's form

I doubt there's a Saints fan out there who would have begrudged Rickie his dream move - he was an absolute legend for us.

I still question whether his lack of pace and mobility will fit well with Liverpool's style of play, but time will tell on that score.

And whilst I don't think £4m is cheap for a player of his age / stamina levels, we'd not be able to replace him with anyone as motivational and talismanic for double that amount..

agree on the mobility, but think he will be useful when the oppostion parks the bus and we are playing the whole game in their half, trying to get a break - so need someone to get on the end of a cross rather than counter-attack at 100mph
